Newbie here but a long time (not as long as most of you here though!) proud Panthers supporter. Have been shadowing this forum for a while now and finally decided to join up after the recent turmoil in our club. Here's my 2c on that, whilst I'm no fan of Griffin's coaching philosophy, I feel the way he was treated was pathetic and disgraceful. I understand the game's a pure business now and ethics & morals take a backseat sometimes but to punt him at this stage of the season is pretty poor form on our board's part, whatever the reasons. He definitely deserved to be shown a little more respect and gratitude. If Gus really wanted to I'm sure he could have managed to put this "episode" off until the off season to be dealt with..

If Gus is to be believed he didn't want to do it until the season was over.

Edit: big welcome aboard.

Although reports are conflicting one part that I believe is true is that Gus decided to tell Griffin he wouldn’t be there NEXT year.
Griffin had the option to stay even if it was only in the background to support the players who he claims all love him and he chose not to.

He’s been working with Fittler for 30 years. Brandy. Politis. I can find more long term examples probably. Cleary is keen to come back also despite Gus.
Fair enough. For me none of them outweigh his standard practice of creating conflict in his work environment. You missed the one person he has worked closely and consistently - week in, week out - with for a long time - Ray Warren.

It’s not that you can seek compensation, it’s that you can legally withhold Cleary’s services if you like. That’s your end of the contract.

But I think it’s fair criticism to say that the tigers have done similar.
I don't the Tiges have gone and offered a deal to a coach who is under contract to another club. Letting people go is one thing - offering incentives for someone to break an existing contract is another.

We don't know if that's happened though. People are assuming it has based on media speculation.

Soward still throwing shade

He certainly doesnt sound bitter about the club.

He only seems to have issue with Hook. Likewise with Segeyaro. You have to wonder if another coach could have utilised those guys better.

Hook couldnt get guys to fit into his grinding footy. So they're moved on before thrir contracts expire.

Hook refuses to do what his boss wants and has been moved on also. Gould wanted him to succeed.

Supposedly they stole Pascoe from us while under contract. He claims we fired him though.

I don't really recall that situation. But they hzve a history of contracts meaning shit. Just like we do.

Reviews would bring these issues up. If at the next review these issues still come up... punt the coach. Aside from that if expectations are being met let them go. How they get there shouldn't matter as long the results are there.

The performances weren't good enough to keep him going, he was always going after this year mate the relationships got that bad.

Look at all the former players that don't like him, there are so many who have givien it to him now.

Just an innocent observation here in regards to Ivan maybe coming in to coach.
Would the Tigers be able to claim monetary compensation, not players?
If they were to do that I wonder if it would effect your operations cap, which comes into play next season I think.
I only am thinking this as if it will work under similar structures to the playing cap.
Probably not but who knows legalities and NRL rules.

Once it was decided he had to go. That is when it should of got done

Do you think that would be difficult?

Yes, but that’s the murky world of contracts.

I don’t see much difference between Cleary wanting to coach somewhere else & a club wanting someone else to coach them.

We know as well that the tigers were interviewing Pascoe behind the panthers back. They’re hardly innocents.

How many current players would be playing elsewhere to keep Soward and Seg though? I am fine with our squad. I hope the new coach doesn't make many changes
