No coach would train to do some of the dumb things we did to lose games
We didnt train to give up 2+ try leads regularly. But whatever we did in training and whatever game plans we had is what led to us being in those losing positions.

It's ridiculous that an issue which was shown to us in the first 30 minutes of the season had not been fixed by the finals. Even if we thought it was a one off in Round 1. It occured again in Rounds 2 and 3.

Plenty of time for a decent coach to fix the issue. But he couldn't. Instead we were forced to rely on freakish talent and often individual brilliance to go as far as we did.

We were down by 18 in both semis with a different coach. If it was as easy as the coach. Surely Gus and co would of fixed it. People over play a coach's influence. In a game day situation what can a coach do? It is up to the players to hold the ball and not give up dumb penalties

If nothing else, Griffin had our team fitter than at any other time and he had the players with a mind set of never giving up.

That'll be interesting to see this year after Yeo made that comment saying they were doing less running and more ball work.

This is the main thing that concerns me. It was our fitness that got us home in so many games last year. I hope we don’t lose that edge under our new strength and conditioning coach. It must have taken an absolute thrashing to get us to that level given you would expect all teams would be training pretty hard.

The Brisbane players mentioned that they were doing the same thing under Seibold, compared to to training under Bennett.

Maybe there has been a modern shift in ideas about preseason training?

While it was impressive we would have been much better off with coach that had even a basic idea of attack. No need to come home so strong if you're not down by 14 every week.

Attack is also Ivan's main weakness

I don't know how much you can put Kikau and Blake going ape shit on defences down to being because of great conditioning. A lot of the time it came about because we ditched five tackles and a kick mid game and decided to actually utilise strengths of the players we have. Who are some of the most naturally gifted in all of rugby league.

The general team maturing will help that. Look at the early penalties v NZ and Melb in the last 2 comp games. All were stupidness from players that should slowly get out of their game.

We scored more points every year under hook then the Ivan coached team in 2014 and the 2011 warriors team. So that is one area we need to strengthen

We won’t be getting down 14 every week under Ivan. I want better attack too but when it gets to the business end the best defensive teams will stand up, we need to be one of them.

Can JFH, RCG etc get that much better at defence straight away? I think we are Atleast 2 seasons away

Depends if you want RCG hitting or not? I do but if he was told to just hold his place in the line he'd be a stock standard soild defender

I think we can carry him doing his thing. The problem is Kikau is new at defending on the edge. Put next to Maloney is a target.

I class 90% tackle effiency as a good defender. Both hookers had that. Yeo, Tamou and Merrin. Both hookers won't be on together and Merrin has gone.

Natural development will do so much but another solid defender is a must

It’s a team concept, it’s not about having defenders individually. Defence is all about attitude and effort. He will improve us as a team I’m confident of that.

If you think Jfh is bad defender you pay too much attention to the stats.

JFH can defend for patches. His issue was going from a bench edge forward to playing in the middle for almost full games. Like Kikau it will come along with time. Never once did we look confident when defending for long patches

In saying that whether it was Griffin or Gus or a bit of both we have a big team now. Compare it too when Ivan was here and we had Docker, Taylor etc. So a few tweeks is all we need but I it is a mid length thing

Our whole team only ever played well in patches under Griffin. You can count our 80 minute performances on one hand in three seasons under him.

Yeah but that is inexperience more than anything. I'd get a new backrower or lock in. and Move JFH to prop but generally it is just a waiting for them to stop doing dumb things

Yeah inexperience played its part, IMO it was more than just that though. Merrin, Tamou, Jimmy....none of the experienced guys could find it consistently under hook.
