On all of this forum I'd take what Daz says over anyone. He's not just some lunatic like me or MX
It contradicts Greg Alexander (who is on the Panther’s board) who said this week that he is happy with Griffin and had no idea where the rumours were coming from.
It also contradicts the following facts (which I have posted before):
- Griffin is contracted until the end of 2020 after being extended last year. Gus and the board are not idiots. Why extend him last year and then fire him at the ends of this season (when we are almost certainly going to win more games this season than when did last year), and have to pay out 2 years of Griffin’s contract. It makes no sense.
- we have made the finals both seasons under Griffin’s tenure. Last season we did it after a terrible start to the season, but he managed to turn things around mid season and we got there in the end and won the first final against Manly. If play isn’t halted when Oates is knocked out then we score and probably go on to beat Brisbane.
- we will make the finals again this season, possibly (although unlikely) in the top 4. We have managed that despite an injury crisis.
- the season we have beaten the Dragons and Rabbitohs, two teams who are ahead of us on the ladder and you’d back us to beat them in a final if we played them. Our victory against the Dragons was one of the best performances I have seen from a Panthers side in a long time. We beat the Tigers who have been giant killers. We also smashed the Warriors without our Origin players and with two rookie halves.
- Our forwards are ferocious and our defence (until recently) had been outstanding.
- Everyone who has played under his tenure has improved as a player. He has excelled at developing young players into quality first graders. Those who didn’t improve were moved on.
- Players are renewing contracts and signing long term deals with him as coach.
I look at those facts and I compare them against the following “rumours” as being the reasons why Griffin is going to be sacked:
- Griffin is stubborn (so what? I imagine Bennett is as stubborn as they come)
- Gus thinks we should be doing better (not unexpected - every team should always be aiming for improvement)
- Some of the staff don’t like him (does everyone like the boss in any organisation?)
I just can’t rationally combine the rumoured facts and reach the outcome that he is about to be fired.
