Agreed. He just kind of existed in origin. Though Jane has hit on an interesting point that they both seem to play better without the other. One of them needs to take control and the other has to accept it.
And that person, who should be submissive is James Maloney. Nathan isn't a bad player as some on here are suggesting.

Anyone who thinks the coach isn’t under pressure is a moron IMO. We just backed up a woeful performance with another woeful performance. We have origin halves and a gun forward pack that look like they weren’t even trying for most of yesterday’s game. Hook has to go, this mindless backing of the club by our fans is so pathetic.

I think most are seeing let's see where we finish then judge. Hardly blindly following

In 3 years Griffin has never been able to consistently get this team ready to play. We are still drifting in and out of games and reallying on natural talent and opposition teams going to sleep after racking up scores to win.

Pomoz is on here last night arguing there’s no reason for Gus to be frustrated with the coach. I apologise for being harsh it just boggles my mind that there is anyone still left that thinks he is doing a good job.

To me it's a bit like folks who almost seem to delight (for whatever reason) is pilloring individual players who play in the team.

I really can't see the point.
For whatever reason Jimmy Maloney appears to be non flavour of the month at the moment.

The team won today, it was not pretty until the last 15 mins or so. But they won, gained the 2 points, it's on the ladder.

Move on to next week.
No one takes delight in our players having shit games. All they need to do is stop playing shit and they will rightfully be praised.

Unlike the little crew here who get excited if a former player has anything less than a 7 try assist motm performance (im assuming that might be enough to stop bagging him, as 6 try assists was not).

We cant even blame injuries or the Origin period for this. We started this season off in the exact same fashion.

For all the moylan the haters out there unless we go on a run the last few weeks it looks like griffins best regular season finish will be 2016...which was purely off the back of Moylan going nuts after origin this year.

Hook has had an extremely talented squad to work with, our juniors and reserve grade sides have been good his whole time here at the club, dominant even. Our FG side is being held back by an average coach it’s just so obvious right now. His attitude obviously wears teams down and every year by midway we start hearing “rumours” about problems with the coaching staff and playing group. He’s been such a bad appointment imo.

We have had issues with starting games, making lots of errors and giving away penalties since hook arrived, he has failed to address any of it. Our defence did get better for a number of weeks but now we look shot again, the try that hooker scored through the middle yesterday was so soft. Our attack flat out looks like rubbish, how can we look so poor attacking the line with origin halves and guys like kikau and Waqa on the edges??? shit even CHN is s great hole runner he was getting put through gaps on the regular last season.

Exactly, when we were in the top four most of my preseason predictions looked ridiculous and I was happily in here admitting how silly I looked. But now we are right back to where I was predicting we would be, the same place as last season.

I take no delight in this but the fact is it is no surprise to me and many others on these forums who couldn’t see what hook was offering, a controlling coach like hook isn’t going to work in the current nrl environment, we are past the days when the coach was the master of all goings on at the club, now we have football managers, welfare managers, offensive and defensive coaches, physios, doctors who are all part of the team.

Also the fact is NRL players are millenials now, they need to be handled differently than they were 15 years ago when hook last won a premiership as ahead coach(in the Brisbane colts comp)

I thought we had a top 4 squad and anything less would be another season failing to improve. Top 4 and week 3 of finals. Or better. Although the week 3 of finals is more important than top 4.

I had Storm and Roosters as top 4 certainties. Which looks spot on. But Cowboys also and that's 100% off the mark... opening up a second top 4 spot rather than just the one i saw us fighting for.

We can still get there. But not on the form we have displayed since our first bye. We're back at where we were in the first few rounds.

You hate the coach no matter what so no doubt will palm these off.

The Brandy said the board was happy as there was improvement. Stats show he is right

We have scored more points a game than last year. (5th in the comp)

We have less points a game against us.

We finished 7th last year. Currently sit 5th.

We even beat 2 current Top 4 teams

The dragons have had their whole spine every game except Origin when Hunt missed a game.

Our full strength spine will miss Atleast 45 games in total.

All this with the youngest and most inexperienced side.

So I wonder what gauge Gus is using to show we could be doing better. There is improvement and the season is still going so room to improve more

Our improvement is coming through natural player development. Our young guys are now rep players, a disgruntled Moylan got swapped out for a kangaroos half. Hook hasn’t addressed any of the issues we’ve had for years.

Yet if we expect more we're terrible people who hate the club.
I don't think anybody on this forum wants anything less than for the Panther's to be the best they can be. Why join a forum to talk about your team when you don't care whether they are good or not?

I have heard this "we care" line so often and it is just a cop out to excuse poor arguments, or, to try and question somebody's intent. People will say something like "Griffin is a dud, Maloney is crap, Tamou is a cat". Somebody then posts an argument that contradicts this with some stats or just an old fashioned opinion and then the reply comes "well clearly I don't accept mediocrity like you", or, "because I expect more than you" line comes out. That is just rubbish. I am sure I am not alone in spending thousands following my team, literally thousands. I care too much how the team goes and expect them to be top 8 every year, given the resources we have.

As for expecting high standards, I'm sure I'm not alone in this forum in working in a high performing global businesses. They accept only the highest standards and set targets accordingly, if you don't deliver you are out on your ear. What they don't do is make outlandish emotional statements like "you are crap", "you have failed" without providing logic and reasoning. They take into account unexpected events like the GFC, a merger or a catastrophic event. Context is everything and it is something that many posters on here don't care about. They just make statements like "Hook is a dud, we would have been beaten by 50 by a top 8 team". There is no evidence to support this, just emotion.

On the same day we won ugly, South's nearly lost to the wooden spooners, in fact, I would argue the ref's helped them win that game (the sin binning was pretty unfair). This is relevant context. Providing context that questions an opinion doesn't mean somebody expects less, it means they see nuances that others don't that makes them see things differently. Just because they argue their point, it doesn't mean they expect less.

Ok, could you please provide the quotes where I said that?

The youngest roster in the NRL. McKendry, Browne, Wallace, Edwards, Luai gone for the season. Leota, Cleary, DWZ, Blake, Mansour, RCG missing for extensive periods. These facts may be relevant.

I love hearing the counter arguments. There are some people who will just berate others for seeming to be negative towards the club.

My comment was more directed at that. For example Franklin is a favourite of mine here even though we disagree regularly. He does it well. It's respectful and usually backed up with an argument.

I don't like just dismissing people with
"well clearly I don't accept mediocrity like you", or, "because I expect more than you" line comes out either.

Good post. I think the information we don't have that makes a difference, is Gus's view from what he sees every day as to whether Hook can improve us enough to win a premiership. According to Daz, Gus doubt's he can do it. That has to be based on future expectations because most reasonable people think we have done ok so far given the injuries and age of the squad. We don't get to see Hook in action, so you have to accept Gus's judgement on this, or, alternatively question whether Gus knows what he is doing.
