The article makes sense.

Griffin has done an outstanding job in getting our players mentally tough. We compete for 80 mins in most games.

The next step is winning finals matches and a Grand Final. The jury is still out if Griffin has a smart enough tactical mind to do the job in those games.

Panthers undertake mid-season review of football operations
The Penrith Panthers are undertaking a mid-season review of the club's football operations, including the performance of coach Anthony Griffin.

NRL.com understands Panthers general manager Phil Gould is in the process of evaluating the team's performance and looking for ways to ensure they capitalise on a promising start to the season.

It is believed Gould and Panthers assistant coach Cameron Ciraldo will take on a more hands-on approach for the remainder of the season.

There's a belief from some at the club that Griffin has taken the team to a certain level and may not be the right man to take the next step.

The Panthers last year extended Griffin's contract until the end of 2020, however it's understood Ciraldo is being groomed as his successor.

Depending on how the rest of the season pans out, that could be as soon as next year.

It's understood Griffin has been asked to alter the way he coaches.

The Panthers sit in fourth position after 16 rounds of the Telstra Premiership, however the performances and results during the past month – in particular their last two games – have raised alarm bells.
They were beaten 32-6 by the Sydney Roosters with all their Origin stars before game two. Then they backed it up with arguably their most uninspiring performance of the season in the loss to Manly at Panthers Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Gould is no stranger to making the tough decisions. He removed former Panthers coach Ivan Cleary at the end of 2015. He also hasn't been afraid to move players on when he believes their time is up.

The club is hopeful of keeping halfback Nathan Cleary at the club beyond the end of 2019 and are well aware of the impact the coach could have on that decision given a potential defection to the Tigers to play under his father, Ivan.

Ciraldo coached Cleary in the club's premiership-winning under 20s season in 2015.

You don't undertake reviews mid season unless there is a big problem.

No quotes in though maybe he just watched training?. Hook and Maloney both said everyone would need to have a long hard look at themselves. So this would be part of it. That said getting Gus and Ciraldo involved is a good thing

Sure, but the re-signing, like many of us said at the time, was very odd.

Talk of Ciraldo taking over is also very odd. He’s way too young to command the respect necessary.

I think getting Gus and Ciraldo is a good thing but from Griffin's position its a poor look in regards to his coaching.

So what's Ciraldo like as a coach? Does he have a good reputation? Just hypothetically if Griffin got sacked would we want him to be the guy we rely on?

1. If Cleary wants to leave, let him leave.
2. A coach who has us in the top 4 two thirds of the way through the season deserves to be able to finish the job without shit like this.
3. Lots of teams have slumps during the season, especially at this time. Most recover.
4. If I were Griffin and this were true, I'd invite Gould and Ciraldo to do better.

That's all I have to say.

I sure hope it does. We've got some good footy minds to work through whatever the issues are.

Remember Merrin and RCG getting asked if Gus was coaching early in the year. That was due to him being at training so it isn't a new thing.

Click on that article in the tweet. They next story under it says we have a hard week coming. So hardly a shock I expected a more hands on Gus

This story is all bull shit. "It is believed..." By whom? Buzz Rothfield? No direct quotes, just more innuendo.

Rookie coaches are a risk. He'd need an old head next too him but he'd be the next coach
