Ok. So for that it's worth.

I saw Ivan at the game on Sunday. He had his Tigers jacket tucked under his arm almost hidden (not that unusual I suppose considering where he was). His body language struck me as odd but at the time I had no idea why so thought nothing else of it. Straight after the game I was told that Griffin was gone. The same source told me over 5-6 weeks ago that Gus, management and support staff were very unhappy with Griffin, his stubbornness and his lack of collaboration.

Of course it makes sense if you read and follow other sports. One year on a contract is unsettling for a team and can undermine the coach. It doesn't mean that you can't get sacked six months later. Claudio Raneri got an upgraded and extended contract after winning the Premier League and was sacked 9 months later. That's a global sport with dollars involved we can only dream of.

Now, like most people, with the benefit of 100% hindsight you say it was a bad decision. It wasn't then and it isn't now. We made the semis two years in a row and what the club did was remove the speculation off the table and gave Griffin every chance of succeeding. They had no way of knowing there would be an endless media campaign and whispers in the press. The club did the right thing and gave Griffin their support. It was up to Griffin to then take that solid foundation and support and deliver. He didn't so he has to leave.
No. I said it was a bad decision a year ago and it was. Many of us did.

This decision is costing us a 2 year payout for an extension he didnt even start. Your fictional reasons for why it was a good decision didnt change shit. It didnt remove speculation at all. It just cost the club a shitload of money when we sacked him. Rather than simply seeing out the contract and avoiding all the drama surrounding sacking a coach 4 weeks out from finals.

Oh stop it. Extending him was a terrible idea many of us said it at the time. He is getting fired now for the same reasons I wanted him gone 12 months ago.

There was no media campaign, there was rumours swirling because players and staff were voicing their displeasure with Hook. For at least two seasons we’ve had these rumours about him. The same rumours he had at Brisbane. He didn’t just all of a sudden become stubborn and stuck in his ways.

YOU refused to believe the rumours now you want still act like it’s a media campaign, that’s ridiculous. It was just the media reporting what they were being told, what was obvious to anyone who looked at the situation OBJECTIVELY, without deciding any and all negative press was bullshit. You are the blinkered one here pomoz, you couldn’t see the truth when others could.

Well that was very interesting. I noticed Fletcher said at least twice that the Board were acting on the advice of Gus, making it very clear it was his call.

For what its worth Danny Weidler was just on MMM and said that one of the two current NRL coaches that Fletcher mentioned we have spoken to is Ivan and I am guessing from listening to Fletcher that the other one is Wayne Bennett.

Yeah one is definitely Ivan after listening to that.

Shows how much power Gus has

It seems he's earned that respect though.

He also said he spoke to some (a couple of?) players.

A good morning everyone. Isn't it? :D

Last night / or early hours of the morning I went back and re-watched the last 2 games the Panfas played. Yep you're right it was pure raw talent that got them home.

If Panfas can get a coach who latches into that power and reigns it to work each and every week Panfas will be a powerhouse of a club.

I have no idea about tactics or game plans, what and how to do it all. But gee oh gee these players have talent with a captial T
