I have to admit that you got most of it right and I was wrong. It's just so hard to believe that Hook would actually ban/seek to control to that level. I'm still in shock. I find it hard to believe that that Brandy and Gus (and others) let it get this far (including extension of contract). The timing gets me. As others have asked was there a trigger - re-signing Cleary? Player revolt?

Much egg on my face - I must have cracked a few too many whilst I was eating my humble pie.

I found it hard to believe initially but Fitler mentioned It in the channel 9 commentary in hooks first year, he was very critical of it, he works with Gus at 9 they are very close so I believed it then, it was as good as Gus saying it.

Ivan has beaten top 4 teams in finals and made a grand final.

Hook has never done either.

Does it guarantee a comp? No. No coach does..but give me Ivan in the finals series any day of the week. His shitty inferior roster at Tigers has beaten Storm twice in a season. We've done it once in 15 years and he was the cozch when we did.

Hook is 0% against Bellamy.

We punted a coach with a win 55% to win comps..

Cleary made a GF 7 years ago. Has a career win rate of 47%

Then there is these unemployed coaches. Any of whom is better than Cleary

Toovey made one in 2013. Has a win of 58%

Maguire won a comp. several PF win 55.6%

Des speaks for himself.

Bennett won't be re-signed

Unless we go Youth there is much better coaches than Cleary

All Cleary has done is rebuild. Some context is important.

You said it made sense. Which is bullshit.

Youre defending a stupid decision that has cost the club $1m+ for absolutely zero gain at all.

We sacked him before his initial contract expired and think extending that a year ago made sense. When no club had expressed interest in him.
Of course it makes sense if you read and follow other sports. One year on a contract is unsettling for a team and can undermine the coach. It doesn't mean that you can't get sacked six months later. Claudio Raneri got an upgraded and extended contract after winning the Premier League and was sacked 9 months later. That's a global sport with dollars involved we can only dream of.

Now, like most people, with the benefit of 100% hindsight you say it was a bad decision. It wasn't then and it isn't now. We made the semis two years in a row and what the club did was remove the speculation off the table and gave Griffin every chance of succeeding. They had no way of knowing there would be an endless media campaign and whispers in the press. The club did the right thing and gave Griffin their support. It was up to Griffin to then take that solid foundation and support and deliver. He didn't so he has to leave.

Why do you think Gus will have a crack at Seilbold?

I knew about Griffin. But I have no idea who will be our next coach.

I can smell it. Nothing else to it really.

Most people on here could feel Gus was about to pull the pin on Griffin. His statements of Twitter and general demeanour pointed towards it.

It's a long time ago now. But Gus used to be one of Penrith's harshest critics. Shortly before he signed with Penrith as GM he changed his tune. He wrote a very sympathetic article towards the club after we got thrashed in a round match. He has very patterned behaviour.

His recent praise of South's and Seibold has me curious.

NRL 360 made a fair point (surprisingly) that Gus on twitter was very confident bennett would not remain at broncos in 2019. goes well with your observations

The same thing happened before he became Penrith coach. I remember him as a commentator talking up the club's chances in the 1989 semi-final against Canberra, in which we were rank outsiders following a poor performance the previous week. Gould in contrast to other commentators on the game, expected us to put up a much stronger effort against the Raiders, who were the eventual premiers, and we did, but they were still too good. With hindsight, he must have already been approached and agreed to coach the club at that stage.

There you go.

And after his interview on 100% Footy tonight I can confirm he likes to look to his right when he is answering questions.

Not all questions I would assume.
