Since revelations yesterday and the Hook sacking. I've decided that everything that happens needs to be viewed and in light of Simpsons show and other various comedys.

The idea that they resigned him to shut down all turbulence is the only thing that makes sense to me. Sort of a statement, it's been decided he's the coach so stop complaining and get on with things. The whining isn't going to achieve anything.

Gus just said on Fox Sports News that out of the 12 applications he has already received, some of them are from current NRL head coaches.

You can be guaranteed that one of them is Barrett. Poor guy got sold a lemon when he agreed to coach Manly.

In the mix (though not necessarily my choice) would be Jason Taylor, Cartwright, Fittler, Macguire, Maybe Brad Arthur???

All speculation at this stage but with 12 applications surely a few from the above would put their hat in the ring.

I think part of it could’ve been the board and Gus showing faith in hook in the hope he’d be more open to accepting help and changing his style a little bit because of the faith shown.

I would also think that a lot of weight was placed on Hook's ability to bring young players through. Gus, having had some time as a Coaching Director at Easts likely sees himself in a similar position in many ways at Panthers probably thought that he could shape/train Griffin (not wanting to lose Hook's nurturing of young players) but Hook ignored him (at his peril as it turned out).

Gus said we are attractive to coaches due to the training facilities, current roster and juniors. He said we will get plenty of good coaches interested but we need to get the right one.

We'd be one of the most attractive coaching jobs in the game based on talent alone. All our teams below the nrl side have been killing it this year. We have been rebuilt, got brand new facilities and now are producing nrl talent better than any other club.

Is shutting down rumours worth the up to $1m payout though?
More than $1m - approaching $1.5m. It is a cavalier - sorry - Gouldian approach to financial management.

This is an investment that will not deliver a financial return with a premiership premiership win - that would just about mean break even. Win 2 in a row and there is a good return.

I guess $1m or $1.5m matters little in the scheme of the money being ploughed into football. Plenty of cabbage still available through the sale of assets so no need to worry.

I have a question for those more clever than me.

If Hook didn't fulfill the KPI's within his contract (i.e. working well with other staffs) Could this mean a lesser payout from the club.

I know when working it can happen if you don't fulfill you're job description.
