Exceptional post. This is my favourite bit:

Context is everything and it is something that many posters on here don't care about.

We all get emotional during a game. Nothing wrong with that. But at some point, get your shit together and realise that we're just getting players back into the team en masse and combinations, particularly defensively, will take more than a week or 2.

Players saying they're right to play and then being well down is also not helping.

Give it another 2-3 weeks before deciding on how we're going.

You hate the coach no matter what so no doubt will palm these off.

The Brandy said the board was happy as there was improvement. Stats show he is right

We have scored more points a game than last year. (5th in the comp)

We have less points a game against us.

We finished 7th last year. Currently sit 5th.

We even beat 2 current Top 4 teams

The dragons have had their whole spine every game except Origin when Hunt missed a game.

Our full strength spine will miss Atleast 45 games in total.

All this with the youngest and most inexperienced side.

So I wonder what gauge Gus is using to show we could be doing better. There is improvement and the season is still going so room to improve more
And for a majority of the season, we were in the top 4.

Good post. I think the information we don't have that makes a difference, is Gus's view from what he sees every day as to whether Hook can improve us enough to win a premiership. According to Daz, Gus doubt's he can do it. That has to be based on future expectations because most reasonable people think we have done ok so far given the injuries and age of the squad. We don't get to see Hook in action, so you have to accept Gus's judgement on this, or, alternatively question whether Gus knows what he is doing.

We aren't talking not re-signing. It is paying out up to $1m for a coach. The board will need more than just Gus' instinct. For such a thing especially when the stats I provided above they see

This team obviously has the ability to be a good side they just have never in three years under hook been able to bring the attitude and effort required to be a good side consistently. The back end of 16 and a 5 or 6 week patch earlier this year is the closest we have been to consistent. Either they are a bunch of pea hearts or their is some other reason for it.

Pea hearts? Really? Look at their average ages, the non continuity of the team, and yet they are in the top 8.

2 or 3 weeks lol. We’ve won one game out of our last 5, been flogged a couple of times over that period. We are going like shit of you can’t admit that you have rocks in your head. It doesn’t take 3 weeks to work two origin halves back into the team.

I don't know this part but if I was to guess I would go Ciraldo. Gus gave a hint on Twitter during the week about coaches in their 30's winning comps recently.

I think he is leaning towards a younger coach after what he has gone through with Hook.

Trent Barrett if you believe Ch7 and Andrew Webster.
According to Webster Griffin is on $800k a year. Unbelievable if true.

Griffin talk starts at 6:31

You come across like you're losing your shit over the last 7 games where we went 3-4 minus origin players and injuries. Yes, Broncos game was shit (I still think we went in thinking with origin players back we just had to turn up) and Manly got away yesterday before we chased them down.

Still sitting 5th, best since 2014, and players coming back into the team. Following your advice we'd be throwing out any chance this year because of a rut in form due primarily to player availability.

I think we've all gathered you don't rate Hook. How about you appreciate that others are willing to give it another week or 3 before writing off 2018?

Forgot bout the warriors. You post your opinions and I’ll post mine mate I don’t give two shits about how I come across, look how good we are going:

36-6 loss to the roosters.
18-10 loss to manly
32-4 win over NZ
24-12 loss to the sharks
50-18! Loss to broncos
And the most undeserved win against manly that you ever see. But Yeah the jury is still out on n how we are going

Manly is a dogshit side, if they didn’t shit the bed for 7 minutes yesterday we would be heading out of the 8. But yeah it’s good at penrith, the constant rumours are about the coach are just a media conspiracy! Everyone hates us cause we’re so good! They hate seeing us win so there is a giant conspiracy across all the big media outlets to bring us down!

People actually believe that conspiracy shit rather than admit our coach is bog average and constantly getting people offside with him.

I’d be more impressed if he didn’t bomb a three man overlap and then back that up on our next attacking set with a 3rd tackle grubber that was never on.

He is a great defender and support player no one has ever denied that, that’s where those stats come from.
OMG you are never, ever, going to give him credit? He is entitled to some errors.

I’ve given him plenty of credit over the years. But he’s elite skill or talent is supposed to be his composure and leadership, yet when there were points on offer yesterday he came up with the wrong options, he does it often, I’m just being realistic Jane. Elite halfbacks don’t do that. He is good, no where near an elite half though.

A good half back does not blow a big overlap like he did, I’ve been talking about his lack of vision for weeks and that is a prime example of it. The 3rd tackle kick on our next set was Mitch Pearce to a T, it didn’t even look like finding the in goal or have anyone chasing it.

Gus thinks we should be going a lot better than what we are.
Without the ability to read the mind of a very successful football club manager, I can only go by his words. He says the side's best is ahead of it. Now this might mean they need a new coach, or it might mean they need a bit more experience.

The club has been making a name for itself in the area of philanthropy. Donations to drought-affected farmers, support for the sport in its target regions and such. I'd humbly submit that paying out a coach at a seven figure cost who is poised to reach the playoffs for the third straight year in as many attempts, and paying on top of that whatever it costs to get a better one, would be a very poor use of money that could better be used in raising the club's profile in these areas.

We just need to be patient, difficult as it might be. Yesterday was an improvement on last week. The big year may not be this year, although we are still well in it, but every chance it could be next year.

Well said. I call it post injury hangover.

I get it that some don't like Hook and some don't rate individual players.

I tend to be meh on these issues, maybe because I can recall the years when the only thing we competed for was the wooden spoon.

It's quite funny actually all teams outside the 8 would almost 'kill' to be in the position we are currently in.

I say bring on the rest of the year.
