If u have ever noticed matthew johns only talks up ex newcastle or current newcastle players.Quinn is just as bad as grothe in defence.I though joel monaghan might have been a bolter for that wing spot he has size and speed to match or maybe not match inglis and folau but maybe contain them.

Jesus, if Anthony Quinn is a defensive specialist, James McManus is a defensive collosus. Quinn is as bland as they come, and makes more metres running across field than he does up it. I didn't rate him as a Knight, and I don't buy into the hype now that he's on a winning team.

It's pretty obvious that any ex-Knights still in the NRL are crap and all current Knights are much much better.

I think youve been a bit harsh on Lowdowns summary Billy, its pretty accurate.

then you're also a blind storm supporter... Quinn has been great this year.

Look at his average metres, hit ups, tackles/mistackles and tries scored. Also - if you do watch our games - look at the way he comes in and closes the attacking play down, nearly every time.

I don't mind being told that he is an ok attacker but to hear him being called a defensive specialist is laughable. It's an impossible debate anyway, i'm pretty sure he's let quite a few trys this year but yous can just come back and say he hasn't so i can't be bothered trying to argue the point.

Well I guess you guys are all the experts.

What does Bellamy know? Nothing - which is why he's now got Quinn in his team for Origin.

Seriously - those who watch Storm games closely (as opposed to those who watch sparingly, and with most likely a negative frame of reference in the first place) - would know that Anthony Quinn has been an absolute revelation for the Storm this year.

In nearly every game, Quinn has been in the top 3. Had it not been for Slater's form - Quinn would be our form player in the backline.

He's not flashy, he's not a Jarred Hayne or Nathan Merrit type - all flash and no substance - he's tough, reliable and gutsy. He's not scared to make the hard yards smashing it up the middle, rarely misses a tackle at critical times and has no problem fiding the tryline when it matters.

I'm a diehard Maroon supporter - and I think he'll be a real danger - both in terms of stopping QLD from scoring - and in attack. Pound for pound, he'll easily be one of the strongest players in the NRL.
Bellamy has been the best coach in the NRL for the past 2 years that's if the Dally M has any meaning to it so he knows quite a bit and he's the one that brought the Storm back to finals football so he's god as far as the Storm are conserned.

Are you Melbourne blokes serious? Talking him up because he rushes in... it's your defensive pattern FFS!

The problem is, as in City Country etc, he won't have blokes rushing the corner post to cover him when he misses.

I cant wait too see Inglis and Folau in attack up against Gasnier and Quinn 10 metres out from the tryline. Absolute massacre.

You've just identified yourself and a deadset idiot.

Its all about execution. The Storm play an up and in defence. They get up in their opponents faces. But the point is not that the Storm employ this tactic (cause any moron knows they do, as you pointed out) - its how Quinn executes it thats important.

Matt King rarely missed tackles when he rushed up. Anthony Quinn, after struggling to find his feet last year - where he was prone to the wrong decision here or there - is now superb, at rushing in, and closing them down ball and all.

Others that struggle for the Storm are Will Chambers and Matt Geyer (still).

Quinn is balls - he's just Hegarty MKII. Then again Hegarty did play for Australia. :sarcasm:

It amazes me why a lot of you guys aren't coaches or selectors or referees, you all seem to know so much more about the game than anyone else. To quote from "Good morning Vietnam", some of you are in more dire need of a blowjob than anyone I know.

Quinn has NEVER been a good defender, he is always out of position, and he is a shirt grabber.

He is however good from dummy half and he knows where to move to on backine runs. he is a good winger but hardly SOO quality.

yep. pretty much. some of them had potential though... with the right attitude and environment.

potential doesn't win you footy matches though.

It's all opinion I guess. For me, he finishes off backline moves and is solid out of dummy half, but his defence is the strong point of his game, particularly this season with us. Personally, I think the majority of trys that have come down his wing this year have been caused by Chambers rushing up and leaving a gaping hole, which Quinn has then had to cover along with his wing.
He'll be fine in origin... just wait and see

That i can agree with. It can't be easy having a centre like that defending on your inside. Perhaps sometimes what i perceive as being Quinns fault may be more of a fault of Chambers it's hard to tell really.

My main problem with Quinn is when he is not able to rush out to meet the opposition player. I think he often gets himself caught flat footed which allows wingers to get outside him.

I guess i can see what your saying though.

I thought he was a shoe in actually, one of few players with the ability to contain that maroons backline. Quinn will be made to look very very ordinary. Thats my prediction and Joel Monaghan will be brought in asap, they'll probably try to sneak him in Quinn's jersey at halftime

And monnas is also a handy player with time and space, he can make a break set up his winger... ignoring that balls up he did in the C/C game

No chance. Defensively, he will stick out more than Timmah's gut.

IMO Quinn has had a strong season and has been defensively sound but there are games where he has shockers and this cannot happen in SOO.

I honestly don't know how he will go in SOO...I am a Storm supporter but must admit that I did not have him in my SOO selections.

Qld will definitely target him.
