ANZ stadium

Not to mention the overzealous security guards on the gates that make going through customs out at Mascot look like an absolute breeze.

ANZ stadium isn't "bad" providing the crowd is over 30,000 and you get one of the few seats in the middle section that have elevation. That means the vast majority of the crowd are watching the game on the big screens.

For football, be it either of the Rugby codes or the round ball game the stadium is sub standard. The seating is way too shallow and you are miles from the pitch by the time you get any elevation at all.

In the NRL alone Mount Smart, AAMI, Parramatta, Energy Australia, Bruce, SFS (Allianz), Woollongong, Campbelltown, Suncorp & Skilled Park are all superior stadiums to watch Rugby League at.

So yay - lets have a f**king thread about the possibly (arguably) 10th best stadium in a 16 team comp.

Yes you can get bigger crowds in there, but its still a soul less shit hole. Once we start getting 40,000 a week to most Sydney games then it will be useful - in the meantime it's a f**king turkey.

Sydney missed a massive opportunity during the Olympics to build a 40,000 all seater, modern rectangular stadium at Olympic Park. That's what Rugby League needs and needs badly. If you think the Dogs and Rabbits have a good atmosphere at ANZ, imagine what it would be like if they actually had a decent stadium to play in.

I really don't mind the bunnies and it's good to see them doing well, but and I mean this all due respect, bunniesman and other total cocksmoking bunnies fans just make me want to hate them.

I've always liked Souths - and there are some bloody decent Souths fans on this forum - but BM really makes me want them to lose just to shut him the f**k up.

Forty years of failure and suddenly they look like a good team and he's rubbing everyone's noses in it. He shows a total lack of grace or decency and comes across as a total twat at times.

Occasionally he shows moments of semi intelligence, but his total unearned arrogance means I just cant stand him.

I feel sorry for other Souths fans like Different kind of rabbit and SSTID who come across as decent blokes. Fancy being associated to a twat like BM.

Seriously BM - do yourself a favour as I know you're not as stupid as you want to make out and pull your f**king head in. Be a decent human being first and a football fan second for once.

All of that is bullshit. How do I do any of that to any greater extent than the average forum poster.

I'm just waiting for the day when the intelligentsia at the Rabbletohs get together and finally move the club back to THEIR TERRITORY.

ANZ Stadium is not, has never been, and never will be Rabbitohs territory.
I'm waiting for the Bulldogs intelligentsia to nut out that it aint their territory either. It's Tigers territory - and they dont want to play there because it is a sh*thole. Oh, and unlike the refugees that infest it, the Tigers look after their home grounds.

Nah - I actually think he went to this one and was so excited he made a thread about it ;-)

Last year he was bitching and moaning about the stadium and using it as an excuse why Souffs supporters never attended home games.

First and foremost I prefer watching League at the SFS (Allianz Stadium).

The simple fact is that Souths moved to ANZ Stadium for financial reasons and what are deemed to be better corporate facilities.

When we were at the SFS we needed to achieve a home crowd of at least 15,000 a match to break even or it would end up costing the club money.

Considering how poor our on field performances had been throughout the 90's and in the immediate years following our reinstatement to the comp - crowds of 15,000 were hard to come by.

Our initial deal with ANZ Stadium guaranteed us $80,000 every home match regardless of the crowd.
When we extended our contract with them, we gained an 'exclusive dressing room'

Personally I would have preferred that we stayed at the SFS, however I understand the reasons why we moved.

We have a great winning record at ANZ Stadium this year, but the stadium itself is not a reason for our success.

The fact that we are finally playing decent consistent football is the reason.

:thumn A sensible post by a Souths supporter .... see it CAN be done

That amazing game against the Roosters two weeks ago? The atmosphere in the last two minutes (and throughout the whole game, but especially at the end) was fantastic. The roar when Reynolds scored was one of the biggest and loudest noises I've ever heard at a sporting event that I've attended, behind the Aloisi penalty and the whole game between Wests and Illawarra in the 2005 finals which was of course, also at the SFS.

If that Roosters/Souths game had been at ANZ the noise would've been nowhere near as loud. Just look at round one - a similar amazing finish, nowhere near the amount of noise.

I live in Hurstville, and agree that ANZ stadium is beneficial for crowd numbers. I have attended 11 games this year, 9 at ANZ and 2 at SFS. ANZ for me, and thousands of other Souths supporters, is easier to get to.

If we played out of the SFS I would likely still go to as many games, but can understand why it would turn people off. I remarked at the Souths vs Roosters game that I would love to have our games back at the SFS due to the atmosphere being 10x better than at ANZ.

ANZ is decent with a 30,000 crowd. I can't wait for finals footy, I think the atmosphere will be pumping even at ANZ.

How well you play at home is a huge part of winning enough games to finish in the top 2.
.

And yet there is no causal link between the two factors in your team's case... You have been playing in the same stadium for a while now...Nothing has changed in the stadiums since your came last there a few years ago and now. Are you seriously suggesting ANZ stadium is a determinant of your run of form

So what went wrong last year when your guys finished 10th and the Bulldogs finished 9th? Or 2010 when you finished 9th and Canterbury 13th? Gees man, you're some sort of genius...

Well, they've obviously done a lot to improve the stadium in the last couple of years, juro.

I'd have thought BarniesDerps brilliant thoughts would have made that, well, obvious.

Put that crowd in a Suncorp, anfield or old trafford and multiply the atmosphere by ten! Anz is a blight and sadly the main reason we won't see a proper RL stadium built in West Sydney.

Lol at the suggestion Old Trafford has an atmosphere...

Look at a map. ANZ is in the centre of Sydney. SFS is off to one side of Sydney. ANZ is far better at maximising crowds. There are just as many Souths members living in the Penrith and Parra districts as there are in inner city/eastern suburbs.

The above, and also the fact that playing at SFS is nowhere near as financially beneficial as ANZ.

More Manchester United fans live in London than they do Manchester should they move to Wembley?

Hell, more Manchester United fans live in South East Asia than Manchester should they move to Thailand?
