Can't NZ claim Brent Webb as a Maori and play him at hooker?? No offence to Latu, but his ball control is nowhere near test match standard. I wish UK based players could still come over because Swain is 10times the player Latu is. I would also love to see Motu Tony at 5/8, but am realistic enough to know that will never happen. Anyone agree with Hugh McGahan that Daniel Anderson has run his course in NZ?? I think he still has alot to offer the national side, I think it might be time for a change at the Warriors if they don't improve over the next few months.
I wouldn't touch Webb with a barge pole the way he's playing. Last year people were mentioning him for Qld Origin, this year he'd hardly cut the mustard in the Qld Cup. I wouldn't touch Tony at 5/8th either, he offered nothing there for the Warriors last year and he hasn't been tried there by Brisbane.
Give Anderson a break, one crap month after three good years and you're talking about replacing him? That sort of judgement can't be made until at least 2/3 of the way through the season I think.

Rugby League: Selectors eye Robbie Paul for life-saving Anzac test role

14.04.2004
By PETER JESSUP
The Kiwi selectors meet today to pencil in names for the Anzac test, with that of Bradford's Robbie Paul sure to be high on the agenda.

The Kiwis look in good shape in the run-up to the game, arguably in better shape than Australia with their rash of injuries.

But there are big holes in the crucial positions that handle the ball most - hooker, five-eighth and fullback.

Paul last played for the Kiwis on the 2002 tour of Great Britain. Kiwis coach Daniel Anderson is not keen on bringing back players who arrive just two days before a test, as has been the case with Robbie and his brother Henry in the past.

But Robbie has filled the hooker and five-eighth roles in tests before, and will be a lifesaver if he can regenerate the form that previously bothered Australian sides.

Bradford are not committed in the Super League on the test weekend and, for once, Paul could fly into Australia to join the team for its full build-up.

Other potential players at the Bulls are Logan Swann, Tevita Vaikona, Lesley Vainikolo and Shontayne Hape.

Richard Swain's Hull side are also off on test weekend, so he should be available.

Anderson said several clubs had been approached to check on the availability of players, but was cagey on whether any were English clubs."

The Warrior Kiwis fly to Sydney on Sunday and the others named by selectors that night join the team in Terrigal, on the Central Coast just south of the match venue in Newcastle, on Monday.

Lineups could be:

Australia
Anthony Minichello
Matt Sing
Brent Tate
Michael De Vere
Luke Lewis
Darren Lockyer [c]
Craig Gower
Shane Webcke
Danny Buderus
Joel Clinton
Nathan Hindmarsh
Ben Kennedy
Trent Waterhouse

Interchange:
Shaun Timmins
Bryan Fletcher
Luke Bailey
Petero Civoniceva

I've chosen De Vere because hes playing well for Brisbane and also his goal kicking. Lets hope Kimmorley doesnt get the nod. [-o<

New Zealand:
Motu Tony
Henry Fa'filli
Nigel Vagana
David Vaeliki
Francis Meli
Robbie Paul
Stacey Jones
Nathan Cayless
Tevita Latu
Paul Rauhihi
Joe Galavao
Tony Puletua
Ruben Wiki [c]

Interchange:
Sione Faumuina
Jerry Seu Seu
Awen Guttenbiel
Ali Lauttiti

I dont think Karmichael Hunt is ready for test match football yet. They should go with almost the same pack of forwards in the test match last year in October.

I think Bailey and Timmins will be starters with Clinton and Waterhouse on the bench due to experience, otherwise you might be pretty close Parra Fan.

Thats why i said Anderson needs a few more months. But he has made some dicey decisions, the obvious one being choosing to play 2ndary teams in trials and then the team running around like headless geese for the first five rounds. Under 7s seem to have more strategy. Webb is ten times better than Latu, and Tony is better than Leulai or Hohaia. But if Robbie Paul is available I'm all for him getting picked. Australia by 40

Thomas Leuluai should not be allowed anywere near a test jersey

Somebody let him near a test jersey last year, and he made Kimmorley look like an amateur.

If Swain is available, I'd take him over Latu. Latu is still recovering from his bout of TB.

Latu is a good prospect, but hes proned to alot of handling errors at nrl level. i hardly see that changing in a pressure test match

As per previously, I don't see Tony getting close given his comments on Anderson. Hunt or Vaealiki will be fullback.

Latu's error rate has dropped appreciably this season. I think he has the makings of a real dynamo dummy half. His defence is also a lot better this year, he's laying the smacketh down on a few would be attackers. He's even looking to develop a kicking game. If only the rest of our Warriors would try to improve as much as he has (well Paleaaesina did but for some reason can't get a look in!!!)

As for axing Anderson, to whomever said, give yourself a triple. Last year he was 1 win out of the GF, the year before he was minor premiership winner, NRL coach of the year and grand finalist. Next thing if the Chooks lose this week you'll be calling for Stuart's head!!!!!
