Point is if your kids are starving and your car needs petrol and the roof is leaking, and you manage to get a raise you do not put it in the bank for a rainy day if today is a rainy day.

Nor do you just start patching up your ceiling before discovering why the roof is leaking in the first place.

Bingo.
Bunniesderp & the tards who go along with him are f**king clueless.

How do you fix something without finding out the cause?

You can patch things ,but the problem is still there.

I'm not saying every problem the game has needs money committed to it today.

But independent doctors at every game is something that should have been announced the day the new deal was signed.

Getting 8 doctors on the books to have 1 at every game every week is something that should be done with our surplus income.

And if we had proper independent doctors at every game for head injuries we wouldn't have needed to ban the shoulder charge.

You can't boost participation rates and profitability by throwing money at it. You especially can't boost participation rates and profitability by throwing money at it when every other code in the country is doing the same.

In my view the biggest hindrance to profitable bush football is trying to run 3 major codes in a country with a population less than one-fourteen the size of the United States. Now either you kill off the other codes so rugby league is the only option available, or you look to other options. That means:
  • Merging teams and creating smaller, stronger competitions (One of the Port Macquarie teams could easily merge with Wauchope for instance)
  • Creating a sustainable business plan

In the meantime go see your local member and beg them to start the Big Australia debate again, and beg them to make your local region a SEZ to attract businesses and new sources of sponsorship. At the end of the day it is bad economic management throwing all your profits at recurrent debt and poorly run clubs.

All doctors are independent. Ever heard of the Hippocratic oath? If club doctors aren't doing the right thing then the NRL should review their conduct and if they feel there are issues pass it on to the AMA to deal with.

Dave smith has singled out ticketing and stadium deals as possible financial moves in the coming years. With this in mind I wonder if the NRL will put a business proposal to the qld government about buying Suncorp stadium. The qld government is considering leasing management rights to all stadiums in qld. That being said, if D Smith can work his financial magic and put a proposal forward to Campbell Newman about buying the stadium we to could own a stadium in the not to distant nrl future. Thoughts??

I like that idea, it's a 52K stadium and can be upgraded to over 60K, however would the NRL
or the QLD Govt pay for it? Titans and Cows also need better deals

The NRL was quick to throw over $60million EXTRA at 16 clubs last year. I don't think it is unreasonable to have hoped that in 18 months we would have seen some investment in other areas of the game.

Of course we needed to get our infrastructure, HR and departments sorted out, that is now in place with the NRL growing massively in staff in the last 12 months. Now lets see some action to increase participation rates, memberships, crowds and national footprint.

I doubt it would turn a profit as big as investing $40mill a year in a reasonable return investment. Suncorp only has 3 tenants, maybe if NRL brothers are admitted to make it four it might be viable to do so.

Maybe a better idea would be to use that $200mill to build a western Sydney stadium. Four tenants plus maybe union if they can be enticed away from Allianz. 50 games a year at $100k a game plus $1mill naming rights plus food and drink income could see a return of around $8mill a year minus running costs.

Perhaps you're right PR, I'm in Brisbane and want what's best for QLD however 4 teams based in Sydney at the same stadium would be a better model

Actually, that's exactly what many financial counsellors would tell you. Putting aside a set amount even before you start paying off debt. That way, you are actually ahead for once rather than behind. Proact rather than react.

After you invest you go down to the $2 shop and buy :

1) Some fruit for the kids
2) A jerry can for the car
3) Tarpaulin for the roof
4) An umbrella for the rainy day
5) A sunnier disposition for yourself

I wonder when they talk about investment if they actually mean they are going to financially invest the money and only spend the return or they are going to put the money in the bank on spend it on developing the game ie investing in the game? Nothing I've read from them makes it clear. Ideally you would hope its the former, Yr1 $4mill to spend Yr 2 $8mill yr 3 $12mill. By end of the Tv contract the game could have $200mill in the bank and have a guaranteed $20mill a year to spend on whatever it liked.
