Pat Cummins will join the likes of Brad Haddin and James Pattinson on Australia A's three-match tour of the UK, but won't feature in the Ashes tune-up.
The talented 20-year-old has not played since suffering an upper back strain during the Sydney Sixers' Twenty20 Champions League in October last year, but is slated to return in July.
To help achieve that goal, Cummins will join physiotherapist David Beakley and Centre of Excellence mentor Troy Cooley in the UK.
Australia A's campaign starts with a four-day match against Scotland on June 7, with Cummins not expected to take the field.
However Cricket Australia general manager Pat Howard noted there was a chance he could play in intra-squad and warm-up games alongside Haddin and six other members of the Ashes squad.
"Pat Cummins is not being added to the Australia A squad but rather continuing work on the areas identified in his customised program,'' Howard said.
"Depending on his continued progression, he may play in intra-squad and warm up matches if this is deemed appropriate based on his workloads but there is no intention for Pat to play in any of the tour games.
"The aim is to have Pat available and prepared for Australia A series in South Africa in July/August.''
The Australia A squad departs for the UK on May 25.
