he said the team had a bad attitude when things went wrong. That they tended to put their heads down, tried to rush and/or force plays instead of knuckling down and sticking to the game plan.
Tom.

If they don't play off the cuff stuff towards the end of games we wouldn't have scored any points !

I am fast losing interest in this club and RL as a whole.

I'm sure we won't lose you and everyone else. But if you do go,congratulations for sticking with the club through the thick and thin.

But us Panther fans,I'm sure are made of sterner stuff than to let a crappy season get in the way of the love we have for the Panthers.

Love,Gus.xxx

Don't get me wrong, I'm no fair weather supporter either but with such a busy family and working life I now tend to do stuff that makes me happy... and well if our guys are going like busteds I find that I move towards doing other things rather than bashing myself up at Panther games.

Can imagine that coming out of Gus' mouth.

Tbh I won't stop supporting the club but I'm walking around in a shitty mood for weeks, I had to leave the gym the Monday after the Brisbane game because I was to shitty to focus haha. I know that's just me being a nutter but it is effecting my work and relationships so at some point I've just gotta let it go.

If we just sucked like five years ago or had a duck load of injuries like two years ago I could cop it, but this piss poor management and coaching and all the cliches and excuses being thrown at us just makes my blood boil.

I'm the same , very long time supporter and occasional season ticket holder. I cant remember being this disappointed in the in the team and squad as a whole, for a very long time.... (maybe the early 80's).
If the object of the board and team management is to alienate and polarise support for it then it's very much succeeding .
It's only for the U20's squad each season that we can hold our head up high, but that seems to be the only constant in all this and it's always what the club pins its hopes on for a brighter future which never really comes to fruition.
Just my 2 cents worth sorry.

I'm 27 and I've supported us since I was born and this is with out doubt the most disappointing season we've had in my memory. I mean it's easy when you have no expectations of success but we've been pumped up for five years about how good we are going to be one day and were basically told that day is now and the team is flopping and we are being fed excuses like we are all idiots.

Well, actually I heard that he spoke about having offered Hariwira (spelling?) a contract and hoped that he would be stay, that he was elusive when speaking about TMM and that he said the team had a bad attitude when things went wrong. That they tended to put their heads down, tried to rush and/or force plays instead of knuckling down and sticking to the game plan. So it appears as though it wasn't just ripping up some paper and not answering questions.

He might not have given the answers to all the questions or the answers that some expected, but again, what did people expect? Gus to come out and wave a magic wand around? I still think people had too big an expectation if they thought that a forum was a magic fix.

Tom.

You keep saying this, but there is literally no one who has said this forum would fix our issues - I'm really not sure why you keep saying it

OK, so he answered approx 80% of the questions in his "off script" speech... What about the other 20%? That's a few questions that weren't answered because why? They were too hard? Too negative? Regardless, they asked for questions to be submitted so they'd be answered on the night, this didn't happen. In fact, the whole lot of them were ripped up, supposedly as a theatrical ploy... I get that you don't want to be negative, but that's a pretty shitty thing to do to your supporters who literally shed blood, sweat and tears for the club.

Wtf are you talking about, no one expected a magic fix just a few answers other than the bullshit we've been hearing from Griffin all year. Turns out we are all idiots for expecting the club to answer the questions they asked the members to submit.

There is no magic fix to a team that has been poorly prepared like us. The shit you have written up there doesn't even make sense, we don't score points until we start throwing the ball around Ike maniacs and playing completely off the cuff, when we follow the game plan we get belted, you can pay 2 bucks and watch all the games on the nrl app if you want proof of that fact and none of that explains why we are backwards defensively, are we throwing out the defensive game plan and deciding not to tackle? Lol you are a fool if you ate that up imo.

To be honest how many times do you think Gus has to answer a version of these question:

"Gus why are we shit"
"Gus why don't you sack Griffin"
"Gus why aren't we signing x player"
"Gus why is this player not in the team"

Guarantee that a SIGNIFICANT portion of the questions were versions of the above and in that case I don't blame him for tearing up shit. He had addressed all those in his responses anyway. You might not like it...but it is what it is.

I would like nothing more than for him to sack Griffin....but do you expect him to rock up at a Panthers Members forum and say "You know what guys...you are right...Hook...Hook...you are here right?...come on down...You're fired". I mean...come on....lol

BTW...if you don't think that would have been a significant portion of the questions...use the old lady as an example.

The question of Griffin would have been easy. The club had a successful season under him last year and he has the right to attempt to dig them out of the hole they are currently in. What's more, he has the right to do it how he sees fit, as it will be his head on the chopping block and his coaching career in tatters if the team continues to fail.

The one that was probably asked most of all but not mentioned above, is "Why is Moylan not being tried in the 6"? I'm sure there is a reason but I'd like to know what it is.

Another I'd have asked if I were a member is "Why is the communication between the club and its supporters so poor, especially as regards injured players". For example, Yeo and RCG were not considered for the rep round due to injury, but the first I knew of it was around Thursday on Facebook. Nothing on the club's site whatsoever. We used to have Spud's Sick List, something like this is needed.

Look closer at last years season, it wasn't as good as it seems.

The devil is in the details.

You're right though, it seems reasonable for fans to get a decent explanation as to why Moylan hasn't moved to 5/8.

I completely agree that 80% (Panthers twitter confirmed) of the questions were to the tune as in your post. What I don't agree with is the theatrical tearing up of the questions. As I've said in previous posts, he could have just stated that a majority of the questions were similar and he was going to address them in the speech given. I just think that was a bit over the top and probably not thought through beforehand.

Anyway, we've got club footy back this weekend and, fingers crossed, we pull a win.

Agree with that. Could have done without the theatrical BS.

Hope so. Win this week then next week against Knights...that's 4 & 7...and maybe a glimpse of hope.

This is such a cop out. The club asked for these questions, the club asked for the members to front up and the club said Gus would answer. If they couldn't predict what the tone of the questions would be after 5 bad losses in a row they are the biggest bunch of morons in sport and we are truly f**ked.

I would suggest gus was never going to answer any questions and the whole event was simply a pr exercise for Gus to convince the members to stay patient and keep copping the losses. If he was confident results would turn around soon why waste everyone's time with this PR exercise?? You would just let the footy do the talking. Unless he thinks things won't turn around this year in which case begging members to stay patient and telling them we are too young makes perfect sense, he is trying to save his mates neck, his own as well probably.

Anyone that didn't attend the Ask Gus forum here is a re cap.

Key Points: Members Forum - Panthers
NRL Digital Media
5-6 minutes
On Monday night approximately 120 members gathered in the EVAN Theatre at Panthers Leagues Club for the 2017 Members Forum. Panthers Chairman Dave O'Neill and head coach Anthony Griffin were also in attendance.

Panthers Membership Executive Jeremy Tuite gave a presentation on the changes and growth of the membership program. Panthers Executive General Manager Phil Gould AM followed up with a summary of the club's financial position, sponsorship numbers and future opportunities.

Gould also spoke on a number of key issues and responded to questions from the audience, while explaining he would personally respond to the 60 or so members who submitted a question in advance of the event.

ON THE NEED FOR THE MEMBERS FORUM

"What happens when a football club loses and goes on a losing streak, it opens itself up to criticism and opinion. Many of the emails I received from the members were quite abusive, and while I don't take kindly to that, I understand the passion with which they're written. That's why I'm here tonight."

"What also happens is there is suddenly rumours everywhere about our players, what is happening internally, about what might be upsetting the team and why they're losing. Who hasn't heard a rumour about the Panthers in the last five weeks? We all have. We'd like to have that cleared up and that's also why I'm here tonight."

ON RUMOURS AND MEDIA SPECULATION

"If I was just like you sitting in the grandstand every week, or watching on TV, I would have some questions too about the way the team has performed. I see what you see when they play. But I see a lot of the things that you don't see. I'm here six days a week. I'm watching the players behind-the-scenes, I'm watching our coaches and staff prepare the team. I know the culture and I know the spirit within the place. For anyone to be suggesting, as a lot of people have done, that there is disharmony or dispirit in this club is totally wrong."

"You will also hear rumours of dissension between certain players. You'll hear rumours players are being shipped out. You'll hear rumours certain players aren't happy with this or that. The entirety of it is rubbish."

"How can I convince you of that? Next year when we go from a 25-man squad to a 30-man squad in the NRL, all those 30 players are now in our building... Over the last 18 months I have negotiated so many extensions of contracts in this club and not once has a player put himself on the open market. Not once has a player asked his manager to go and see what he was worth on the open market. Every player at our club wants to be here at this club... When you've got that culture where everyone wants to stay at the club and everyone has re-signed for a long period of time, how can there possibly be any dissension?"

ON THE ON-FIELD PERFORMANCES

"The confusion comes because we finished off last year so well and so many people were talking up the Panthers. It's not quite the same side at the moment that had that success at the end of last year. We don't have Josh Mansour, while Bryce Cartwright and James Fisher-Harris have hardly played this season. Peta Hiku and Dean Whare who didn't play much last year are coming back from serious knee injuries and still finding their way back into the football."

"When teams are struggling, you lose your ability to think sometimes. Just at the moment they've lost their ability to think, or they've lost a little bit of confidence or belief in what they're trying to do. But that can click at any time."

"At the moment they start the game with all good intentions but when they get a bit of a setback, they're not yet handling it as they should. That can only come from experience and time spent together. I can tell you the desire in this group to improve is immense. These guys are here all day every day trying to get better. This is the best shape our club has ever been in from a sports science, physical development and coaching perspective."

"I believe we have the right players, the right coaches and the right people in this club to build the next great era for the Panthers."

ON RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION

"Other clubs handle their recruitment differently. They go out and buy as many stars as they can and when they're no good, they tip them out and go buy some more stars. We've had a deliberate program here at Panthers to create our own, to build from within, so this club truly represents this area."

"Corey Harawira-Naera...is getting a lot of offers from other clubs. He's one of those players saying 'I will hold on until Panthers can make me an offer'. I made Corey an offer on Friday and spoke with his manager at length... He's a beautiful kid who has come through our junior system and I'm very hopeful Corey will be with us next year."

ON GROWING THE GAME

"The Bathurst area has been wonderful for us. We've signed a new deal to take a home game there every year for the next 10 years. As of the weekend there is now an agreement for our club to actually coach and develop the U16s and U18s Western Rams development sides. We'll be pouring more and more money into those people out there."

Sorry but I'm just sick of the excuses, that's what most of that from Gould is.

There's little to no introspection and admissions of failure. He's had years now, at a certain point there must either be results or there must be changes.

And it's hilarious to see him use the excuses of injuries given how bad they were in 2015 & how little grace he showed to Cleary.

This can not be true. All the players hate Griffin and they all want to leave.
