Assistant Coaches Sacked

Can someone in the know clarify what the go is with Flanno ? Looking for assistant coach to help out and maybe take over if things don't work out with Hook ..... Wouldn't Flanno be the obvious choice or is he off to coach some where else ? Someone that knows can you shed some light here .....

Not sure about the current situation, but Flanno was assistant to McGregor. The first thing hook did when he was appointed was to sack Flanno. This suggests hook is not comfortable with Flanno as assistant, perhaps from a fear that he will be undermined?

Saints wanted Flanno ahead of Hook and if not for the NRL not allowing Flanno to be registered he would be the current head coach. Maybe Saints will go over Hook's head and appoint Flanno as the insurance cover for another poor season next year whilst Hook is still in charge. They extended Hook so there is no talk about the head coaching role in the back end of 2022. With Flanno as assistant, if it goes pear shape then they can sack Hook and put Flanno in charge immediately to stop the media circus. It will show to me that the board is seriously looking ahead.

I have a feeling it could be Flanno and Baz or Garth Brennan. Wasn't Baz at the Panthers when Hook was there as an assistant? They have history. Also Garth Brennan I think from memory was assistant at the Panthers under Hook before he went to the Titans.

I thought that it was reported Flano declined to stay on when Hook was appointed?

No, Barrett was failing miserably as head coach at Manly while Hook was at Penrith in 2018.
Barrett left Penrith in 2015 when Cleary was there in his first stint.

No idea, but suspect very little with the exception of using the Dragons as a springboard for his own benefit & his Super.

Griffin is not on a huge deal. If the Board wants Flanno, then it will have to be at head coach. Give Hook the golden hand shake like many before him and get on with the job.

They all do it. When Bennett came in 2009 we had nothing remotely organised post the Brian Smith era, so he set up the basis of the HPU - High Performance Unit. That lasted 13 years but apparently wasn’t doing the job, hence more jobs for the boys & the Dragons Academy has been created.
