The 'forgotten' man in this assistants sacking is Russ Aitken, coach (hmmm) of the KOE Cup squad and let's face it, the reggies team isn't firing at all given the standard of players that role up each week. No pressure really on anyone in 1st grade imo. There was some chat about Talau being 'promoted' in his role of coach, so it wouldn't surprise me to see Willie coaching the reggies squad next year. Just my opinion of course.
The sacking, if you could call it that, of Gentle and Head is a well overdue initiative. I wonder if this has been in the pipeline for a while or just a recent conclusion.
As far as Hooks' assistants next year, I think, and only my opinion, that Flanno will be one. His eye on the prize so to speak. The other assistant, well there will be a plethora of choices by seasons end. There are very good ex-coaches, on, or even coming on the market, with Holbrook and O'Brien more than likely struggling to hold their jobs by seasons end. Barrett won't return to us in a hurry. Green is probably a front-runner if one or both of Holbrook and O'Brien aren't in their respective clubs next year. Brown and Hannay seem settled as assistants already in Parra and the Sharks. Ryles is just waiting for the Storm job after Bellamy 'retires'. There's also Madge Maguire, who would be an interesting appointment, given his 'style'.
Personally, I would pump for Holbrook. I think he's a very good coach, let down by his team at present. Failing that, Potter has seemingly got the Dogs firing in attack.
So, my 'coaching team next year would be (imo only):
HC - Griffin
Assistant defense - Flanno
Assistant attack - Holbrook/Potter
KOE Cup coach - Talau
