At the end of the day these ethnicity based teams are a blight on the international game, but unfortunately they're the only way to expand. The problem is, their growth only affects US. It doesn't affect Aus or England at all. So what they lost Fifita? They've still got Origin to keep Felise Kaufusi and co. in check. A weakened NZ weakens the international game more than a strong Tonga or Samoa strengthens it. We've always given up our depth players, but now we lose front liners. We've been battling for years to gain some traction against Aus, and we get got it. We won 4 tournaments and got that number 1 spot. But then we get hit by a massive setback named Kidwell and much like Kemble, he f**ked it all up, except worse. Now we have to start over with a smaller pool of players to choose from. It's disgusting that this has been allowed to happen. It's an absolute travesty of justice.

Kidwell selected a team of what he considered the best players it just happens that 16 of them were Maori.

His methods did suck. Making professional athletes, sleep on mattresses?? their bodies are their tool and it should be well looked after and recovery should be maximised through good comfortable sleep like all the other teams were.

Kidwell talked about maori culture and how he was going to use that to bring the boys together. Then not too long after that he selects 16 maoris for his team. If he wanted an all Maori team - fine he could do so and if anyone asked, he'd just say 'oh I didn't notice, I just picked them cos theyre the best'. Its just the way it looks.

Then why are they all dressed in red waving tongan flags in mangere and cheering beating NZ? Because reality is they identify as tongan first and kiwi second (if at all). They played for NZ to get paid. The reason the team is so heavily Maori is because they are the ones putting their hands up to wear the black jersey. Salute to Manu Vatuvei and all tongan players that played in the black jersey but the red giant has awoken we pretty much have lost a generation of tongan kiwis to tonga rl. If Samoan kiwis elect to do the same in the future coild be worse. We really need to lobby the nrl to open up origin to kiwis if rules had of been differrnt kalyn ponga would be turning out for qld and NZ.
