Thoughts on the movie?

I actually thought David & Margaret hit the nail on the head with their review.

The opening 20 minnutes was so forced and silly in the way the characters were introduced. Then the movie hit its stride. The little kid Nullah was great. Some of the shots, particularly of the cattle droving were amazing.

Plenty of faults, but plenty of spectacular moments. All in all Baz Lurhman was both the movies strength and its weakness.

I was waiting for this thread on this so-called Australia movie.

Looks like I've found it.

And by the looks of things it ain't doing so hot.

It's politically correct bullsh*t.

Again they're portraying history wrong, short-changing it like usual, with today's times!

Today's times are trying to rewrite history and make out it was all lovey dovey and we were all living in unison and peace.

I want to know if this is our poor horse sh*t version of Pearl Harbour? Remember that dreadful account of a movie with Ben Afflect?

I detest this film on two counts....I find it guilty on count one: because Baz Lurman done it - he's the same queen that made that androtop movie portraying Aussies as queers and count two Nicole Kidman is in it. Enough said.

Here's what I wrote about Nicole Kidman's acting (she's a Scientoligist) on the daily telegraphs website.

If you look up the word fake in the dictionary there will be a picture of Nicole Kidman.
I like to remember this sheila for her dreadful acting especially in Days of Thunder how she goes, ‘’Come on Cole!’’ And she’s no blonde either as we saw in Billy Bathgate how she was pure redhead downstairs and then there were her natural bogun looks in that BMX bikers.
She’s more faker than Princess Mary living in a fantasy world bending it like Beckham’s wife all plastic ‘n all.

I will not watch this film Australia under any circumstance.
How embarrassing.

They should tell the true story about this country and what it's been turned into today.
Show the world today's version of Australia and what it's really like and don't stereo type cast us as a bunch of neandethals living in the dark ages who eat wild game and say g'day acting like f*cken Paul Hogan!

It's like a very bad cowboy movie story wise, but take out the silly story and the production qualities are amazing.
The sceneary, photography, sets, special effects etc show they spent 100 million - but the ad they put on before the show using the same scenes and the aboriginal kid is as good as the movie.
One of the most expensive turkeys of all time because Kidman and Jackman are so bloody ghey - maybe chicks would like it - i don't know - but as far as i can see it is the worst cowboy story ever.

It is a bit harsh condemning something you haven't seen St Brett.

In my opinion it was good. The "Gone with the Wind" treatment was a bit theatrical for my liking, but I can see what Luhrmann was trying to do with it. It is a visually stunning film, if full of historical inaccuracies. Then again, this isn't a documentary, it is meant to entertain and I think it succeeded at that. The kid who plays Nullah is brilliant.

Has a bit for everyone. Some decent touches of humour in there - Nicole's first glimpse of kangaroos on the drive out to Faraway Downs is very funny. On the action swide, the cattle stampede (where Nullah does a Crocodile Dundee) and the bombing of Darwin are very effective.

Will it recoup its costs and attract tourists to Australia? Probably not, but it doesn't hurt to have someone like Oprah touting its virtues. As a piece of entertainment, it is certainly worth the admission.

She is terrible. Plastic fantastic and completely void of personality. She has literally made 10 terrible films to every half decent one she is in. Her Oscar was truly baffling

The cynicism surrounding this movie is more baffling than any acclaim Nicole Kidman has earnt. Why the hate? Is it purely because of the blanket promotion? Or because of Luhrmann's supposed left-wing 'politically correct' leanings? Surely the Rob Schneider movie is more worthy of this kind of crap
