This is the EXACT problem with Idol. These "themed" nights are good but some of them are just really stupid. Disco is one of them. I'd also say that although it will suit Lisa and Bobby if they get through tonight, next week will just be ridiculously stupid! Hardly any performers play instruments nowadays in the pop industry (generally that is what Idol is). I'd much rather the singers be able to sing music that they are comfortable with so that the audience can properly analyse their talent.

I don't mind next week, if they dont play an instrument they simply get a solo guitarist etc to sit next to them

Exactly. People are going to vote for these guys based on their strengths. It's not going to matter whether they can sing disco or not at the end of the competition, they are going to release a record of their own style which is what will sell! These theme nights are a way for the judges and public to trip them up.

I did like the auditions where they sang their own songs.... Bobby, Dean, Lisa and Joseph were all impressive. But since the show has started, it changes your opinion because they are made to mix it up.

I applaud the kids for giving it a go, but yeah it annoys me that Bobby changes the song completely and is immune to criticism. But on the other hand, I would like to see the other guys be able to pick songs that suit them too so we can actually see everyone's strengths on the same night!

Bobby is hijacking good songs. He should not be allowed to change the tunes of the songs. It is silly for starters.

yeah he gets away with it but I believe he is one in a million when it comes to interpretation.

I agree, in past years singers have been bagged by the judges for changing the tunes but in his case I think they're too spellbound to care.

I think he will sell plenty of albums in his Nora Jones/Dylan/Fusion genre.

I love her voice! I love her choice of clothes and I really like the fact that she is original! You watch Lisa will be awesome next week with her guitar!
