Penrith have the worst.

Nathan Smith
Nigel Plum
Luke Lewis
Blake Austin
Cameron Ciraldo
Clint Newton
Sarafu Fatiaki
Yileen Gordon
Jesse Sene-Lefao
Jack Grace
Theodore Stewart
Vaipuna Tia Kilifi

Aside from Lewis who's a gun their pack is either made up of journeymen workhorses or youngsters. Gould's first year is going to be very rocky and I hope for Penrith's sake he see's it through. If I'm not mistaken, Gus has a bit of a history of fleeing clubs when things get tough.

Yeah gotta agree with the above sentiments.

Gus is great at pointing out issues and problems but rarely is able to offer solutions.

Can't disagree with that but speaks volumes for the depth of second rowers going round though, Smith & Plum are underrated first graders and Lewis is all class.

There's a pretty clear bottom 5 for me

Roosters - way too inexperienced and a lot of unproven first graders
Panthers - Lack the depth and some quality
Bulldogs - Lack the quality and consistent first grade performers
Eels - Solid choices but just lack the class, Hindy the exception of course
Raiders - Lots of youngsters, a lot to prove. Harrison is overrated but Fensom is a gun.

You could add Maitua as a class player too ex Aus rep. Played quite well in his first season back actually only wish we had him for the full year

Hindmarsh and Maitua are clearly classy backrowers but we definitely are missing something!

Hindmarsh is terrible, Ben smith is close to the worst player in the nrl.

Agree on matuia, very good in 2011 and will only be better next year.

Dunno about that. He won a comp at the Dogs, then went to Penrith and won another comp. Penrith got rid of him amid a raft of gambling related innuendo, and the Roosters picked him up, despite Jack Gibson's warning "If he's so good why are the other mob trying to get rid of him" Gus stayed in some capacity at the roosters for over a very sucessful decade.

By the look of the Panthers pack, they are going to create lots of boom up and comers if they are to be sucessful. maybe that's the point.

Playing for Australia doesn't make you a class player, the jersey and honour has been devalued by ridiculous selections and non-selections for years now.

Maitua was a promising player who was coming off the bench in arguably the greatest modern day forward pack, Hindmarsh is someone who's performed consistently for years and at the highest levels of the game. Maitua has still got a lot to prove.

well he's on the right bloody track then.

he was pretty much our best for the 10 or so games he did play for us. Proved that he is ready for the NRL again

on Ben Smith, no way is the near the worst player in the NRL. had a quiet year in 2010. but played very solid last year. Very good defender and when given space can bust through a gap and still has enough pace to get to the line.

he is a very handy player to have on your side.

Lol, sorry dude but come on, you give Morris stick about playing for Aus, yet Mataiu only played for Aus once and it was over 5 years ago, not to mention there was a heap of people out injured...

Agree with other guy, ben smith is garbage.

I never said he wasn't on the right track, nor did I ever say he wasn't ready for the nrl or that he played poorly for the Eels.

Playing 10 good games for the team on equal points as the wooden spooners doesn't make you a class player.

Maitua earnt his spot in 2006 and would have played the entire tournament had he not been injured on debut. He was definitely worthy of selection and while Carroll's injury promoted him to the starting line-up he was already in the squad prior to his injury.

Maitua was handy for the Eels this season but I wouldn't start boasting about him just yet.

RWB - I felt dirty for slighting Plum. For mine, the best defensive player in the game and I think every side could use at least one player of his nature. I disagree on Smith though. Even his work-rate isn't THAT good and he doesn't offer a lot else. A handy depth option but nothing more. Then again, I hold a lot of resentment because he seems like an Elliott type of player and I was never a fan of Matt as a coach. He coaches ugly Rugby League.

Maitua is a star in the making still has a way to go before you can tag him with the class act player. (He was deffinately your best in the ass end of the season as was Luke Burt "Love Burt probably the most underrated player in the NRL I would take Burt over both Morris any day dude is a point machine!!")

I think Ben Smith is a good utility player and yeah Bad Knee's really curtailed him at stages. :(

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Reni is 30 in 2012, he is hardly a star in the making. DCE is a star in the making, Kieran Foran is a star in the making, Jack Reed is a star in the making. Idiot.

He started in first grade in 2004 (The year the dogs won the title), seeing you can't do maths that is 7 years ago. He WAS a star in the making with the Dogs and he did reach somewhat star level, poor attitude and poor training along with drinking ruined his career. He then blew it at the Sharks. He is now looking good for the Eels but again hardly a star. Certainly not in the making.
