Balmain Ryde-Eastwood's State Cup players quizzed on gang rape claim
http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,25123041-5001021,00.html
POLICE were yesterday investigating a rape allegation against players from Balmain Ryde-Eastwood's State Cup side.
The Tigers were in Queensland to play a trial match against the Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles - Manly's feeder club - at Stockland Park, Kawana.
Later that night, a woman, 23, alleged she was gang-raped by up to five players in Caloundra.
Balmain chairman Dave Trodden confirmed some of his players were interviewed by Queensland Police.
"I don't know the allegations but there was an incident where police investigated some players from out State Cup side, Balmain Ryde-Eastwood," Trodden said.
"The players co-operated and assisted and police were satisfied with the way the inquiry was conducted.
"I understand the players were told they wouldn't be required to assist any further."
Balmain officials have informed NRL chief executive David Gallop of the incident.
"We have been made aware there has been a complaint," Gallop said last night.
"The club's understanding is that the police won't be pursuing the matter.
"We will certainly monitor the situation over the next day or so."
No player has been charged although police are continuing their investigations.
The Tigers game was a curtain-raiser to the Melbourne Storm-Brisbane Broncos trial game.
No, that's over complicating it. They just have to be more choosy about where they put their dicks. Much simpler. If in doubt, don't whip it out!So you suggest the average simple footy player must accurately assess the risk of a "false accuser" whilst at the same time, being friendly and also gauging the potential opportunity for "relations" with her ?
No, just giving a solution that would cut this sh*t out of our game, NRL or NYC.Quite the moral crusader arent you?
Not finger waving, just talking about taking precautions. It's very simple to avoid this type of sh*t, without needing a jury to tell you who was responsible for this particular incident. Focus on education and behaviour change, rather than giving these overpaid f**ktards excuses by seeking to always blame others/media, and allowing our games players to not ever take responsibility for how they carry themselves.I'd say it matters a great deal whos part the ''behaviour'' is attributed to....but do carry on generalising, finger waging etc
Just heard on 2GB on 11pm news that the woman was disabled!
Shocking!
Hmmm, startling development in the reported information about this situation. Wonder what new excuses for condoning alleged player behaviour of this sort the new day will bring?http://www.skynews.com.au/sport/article.aspx?id=307804
Queensland police are investigating the alleged gang rape of a disabled woman, by members of a rugby league side.
The victim claims she was attacked by up to five players at the Rydges Oasis Resort at Caloundra early this morning.
Father claims rape against Balmain Ryde-Eastwood players
POLICE are investigating claims a group of rugby league players gang raped a woman after an NRL curtain-raiser on the Sunshine Coast.
And two very different sides to the story are emerging, with the alleged victim's father telling of animal brutality while league officials indicating players will not be pursued by police.
It is believed the woman, in her early 20s, and her sister returned with a group of Balmain Ryde-Eastwood players to the Rydges Oasis Resort, Caloundra, early yesterday.
Up to six players allegedly raped the woman in a hotel room after her sister left with another player, sources said.
The woman's father last night told Channel 9 the players allegedly held his daughter down and bashed her.
"She was screaming her lungs out," he said.
Video footage showed bruising on the woman's neck.
Police said the players had co-operated with the investigation, staying on the Sunshine Coast to answer questions.
They had played the curtain-raiser to the Melbourne Storm-Brisbane Broncos trial game at Stockland Park, Kawana, on Saturday.
