There's been plenty of online debate recently as to who our greatest ever Test batsman is: Crowe or Taylor. That was a typical Taylor innings today. Looks great (or scratchy) putting together 40 runs and then gets out slogging. We needed him to still be in there right now and he isn't.

Enormous gap between bat and pad from Nicholls. Amazed he wasn't bowled. He might be a good domestic bat but he is out of his league at this level. I feel sorry for him TBH.

It's not Taylor IMO

But Turner, Sutcliffe, Donnelly and Dempster should be part of that discussion, the latter group shouldn't be disadvantaged by a shortage of tests. Donnelly by all accounts was a great player

Definitely not Taylor.

I think Taylor is grossly undervalued IMO. Sure he hasn't had the best 18 months, but he has stood out a heck of a lot of times in some pretty ordinary batting line ups. I don't know if it's recency bias, nostalgic sojourns, or a bit of tall poppy syndrome but he's been one of NZs elite test cricketers.

I agree with that. He frustrates me, often. But the #4 spot is still clearly, rightfully his.

Yep, I like him a lot and he should be in all NZ teams, 'dropping' him fro T20 was stupid

Crowe over Taylor for me but the gap isn't as big as some would like to claim.

Taylor's record is pretty good against every opposition except South Africa. Would love to see him get a century against both Bangladesh and South Africa this summer to complete the "century against every nation".

In any case, I think it's a matter of time before Williamson overtakes both of them so it's a short term argument at best IMO.

He looked OK last night, simple compact defence. He looked more like a test cricketer when he was playing out for time although lucky not to get out last ball of the day, should have played back.

When he was batting aggressively earlier on he looked like he could get out at any time. He also looks like he's about 16 years old

The issue I see with Henry is he's lead footed straight down the wicket. He doesn't use his back foot at all. He looked all at sea against the spinners. The issue is the 53 he scored will keep him in but he just looks out of his depth. I'm not trying to death ride him, for all the tea in China I wish he was settling but he's not.
