Barba sacked by Cowboys

Agree. Greenberg going in to bat for Inglis and assisting him to get off a mid-range DUI plus speeding does nothing for the credibility of the sport at its highest levels.

Weedler's column today just happened to mention Inglis' private life, separation from his wife and that he has been seeing someone who works at the NRL for some months now.

Hmm. Handy that .... especially when needing a character reference from the NRL CEO for a DUI charge.

Did it distinguish between the Charity work that he does do and that which he doesn't do but still gets paid for

Oh ok, so the main reason for him getting punted was Darius, not his inept putrid form.

Thanks for clearing that up Pete.

Bennett, actually.

Boyd's form was worse at the time, Bennett clearly had a higher opinion of one player than the other.

I don't understand that philosophy at all... This merkin is an Australian, has allegedly acted disgracefully by physically assaulting the mother of his children on what any right minded person can fairly assume is multiple occasions (if you take the 2013 stuff in to account) .... You're OK for this merkin to go over to another country and disgrace himself, his family, his countrymen and the game because it's only ESL?

Sorry, that's bullshit IMO. I'm as sympathetic as anyone to the plight of his kids, but I'd be embarrassed as an Australian if we shipped this lowlife to another country because "his kids have gotta eat" ... Time people started taking responsibility for their actions rather than hoping they'll get ANOTHER lifeline in a foreign land and earning 10 times the average wage good, honest people in your community and mine do.

f**k him. And don't let him become another country or code's problem.

No question that Barba is an absolute prick and should not play professional rugby league in this country again.

But, the NRL does not have the power nor should intervene anyway in the dealings of another code or country. If a club like the Melbourne Rebels, Salford Reds or Toulon feel like they want to take the risk, Im okay with that. If a person's crime is serious enough, they won't get a visa anyway.

For the record, Im sure the ARU won't take him. He failed union pretty badly in his very short stint in Europe. I do think some battling ESL club will take him.

I don't get it Dylan Walker done the same thing but is still playing? Exact same thing, fight with his partner, police become involved and the partner withdrew any complaint.. Barba sacked instantly... Walker to play round 1?

Two things go against Barba

1. Presence of video in Barba alleged assault
2. Timing of offence. Walker allegedly did his assault early in the off-season while Barba did his in the aftermath of the most incident-riddled off season in memory.

If Walker allegedly assaulted his missus today or if it was filmed months earlier, I'd say he'd be looking for new employment.

Are people ignoring that the ESL enforced his 12 week ban when his failed Union stint was over?

This latest incident makes you think what happened in France.

Barba can never be seen in professional Rugby League again.

And nor should Todd Greenberg.
It is one thing to to 'rehabilitate' offenders and allow 2nd chances.
But to to head up an investigation which was let him skate past the first (or who knows how many) ALLEGED offence which had publicly released ALLEGED evidence, without any consequences whatsoever, is negligence at best and corruption at worst. (alleged alleged alleged)

Todd out.

I have no doubt that Greenberg is nervous about a protracted media "investigation". By punting Barba now, the media won't be looking for reasons to try and force the NRLs hand into action. Greenberg may feel that this is the safest option for himself while giving a perception of action.

He did have a great season though. A blues jersey is very possible. Will you still have the same opinion then?
Mate I don’t care if he ends up the greatest front rower of all time and devotes allhis spare time to helping the homeless, the fact is he should have done a long stretch in jail and be banned from the game for a long stretch. His crime was horrendous and the NRL stuffed up big time once again

That is the US justice system for you. Rather than bear the cost of accommodating him in prison for whatever time, they determined that he had a reasonable prospect of earning a good income in future years and so decided to award a considerable chunk of it to those aggrieved. A seven figure payout for getting scared witless doesn't seem all that bad. If he was in the pokey they'd get nothing. Whether that is a better system is a matter of opinion, but that's the way it is. The NRL appears to be holding him to paying the damages as a condition of playing, having confined him to 2nd tier for a year, I don't know what more they can do. Obviously he's in the same boat as Barba was, one slip and you're gone.

From what I've seen, ESL pretty much run their own ship (rightfully). Only threat to signing players "tends" to come from UK immigration regarding allocation of visas.
You should try seeing with your eyes open.

The ESL and NRL have had an agreement for some time now, where both comps honour the penalties made by the other.

So the NRL impose a suspension on Barba and then at the completion, refuse to register him a la Todd Carney. The ESL honour his suspension, but at conclusion of same, it is up to them whether they allow him to play in their league, and when all this dies down, and charges are not laid or do not bring a conviction because the victim doesn't co-operate, or even if he gets done for common assault, that is what I expect will happen. Unless of course the UK won't let him enter their country.

Why does Lodge get one chance and Barba get none though?
