Heres the rule for tackles:

2. A player in possession is tackled:
Grounded
(a) when he is held by one or more opposing players
and the ball or the hand or arm holding the ball
comes into contact with the ground.
(b) when he is held by one or more opposing players
in such a manner that he can make no further
progress and cannot part with the ball.

(c) when, being held by an opponent, the tackled
player makes it evident that he has succumbed to
the tackle and wishes to be released in order to
play the ball.
(d) when he is lying on the ground and an opponent
places a hand on him
.

Obviously some people think he was lying on the ground (subclause d) while the official doesn't think so (subclause b).

Does anyone have a youtube link to the disputed dogs try? I'd like to see that one again.

If a tackled player loses possession of the ball at the moment of
impact with an opponent or with the ground, play shall proceed
unless stopped for some other reason, e.g. the ball has been
knocked forward. A player in possession brought to his knees or
brought to the ground on his back may still pass the ball – provided
he has not made it evident that he has succumbed to the tackle. He
should not be wrongly penalised otherwise all players will become
reluctant to pass the ball as the tackle nears completion in case they too are penalised. The continuity of play would consequently be
adversely and unnecessarily affected.

This really lays it out simply for those of you who still dont get it read all the rules and understand it

Part B is obviously not a issue as the ball was passed.

Part D of the first section is clearly under the control of the highlighted section in the second quote in this instance. You can not argue against these facts.

I thought it was a try. Arms never hit the ground, there was still momentum and ref didn't call held.

I hate the dragons but this "refs giving them favourable treatment" is getting a little geniused.

Thought I was watching union for a few minutes, definately no try and a pretty shit decision by the video ref who deserves a short holiday IMO.

How many times does it have to be said that the ref doesn't have to call held to constitute a tackle????

Pretty sure every tackle the ref says something like "Thats one", "roll away, thats two" or "don't work him, thats four". I know I did when I refed.

honestly read the rules as shown above and tell me how you could come to this conclusion

Your rules state it clearly:

(d) when he is lying on the ground and an opponent
places a hand on him
.

There was a similar situation last week in the Titans/Warriors game. The difference was when Elijah Taylor went to ground he had broken off from the defender and was free to continue. Beau Scott had not. He was therefore tackled.

That rule doesn't apply. That rule states a player must be on the ground THEN a player places a hand on them.

Are you f**king blind the second part clearly has control in this instance and can not be argued

A player in possession brought to his knees or
brought to the ground on his back may still pass the ball – provided
he has not made it evident that he has succumbed to the tackle. He
should not be wrongly penalised otherwise all players will become
reluctant to pass the ball as the tackle nears completion in case they too are penalised

Scott on his back and obvioulsy not succumbing to the tackle read the whole piece

That's not the Scott situation. Scott was brought to the ground......
