Beer Thread

Honestly, what is the definition of a "craft beer"?

Seems like anything thats not produced by the big 2 is thrown into that catagory

From that list I posted, there is a number I wouldn't call craft beers. Both Coopers and Little Creatures (which would include White Rabbit) are not craft beers despite how they market themselves, and neither is anything by Fosters or Lion Nathan (Matilda Bay + James Squire + Kosciuszko). I think there probably would need to be a decision to describe craft beer, probably by output volume.

Tried some Burleigh 28 Pale Ale tonight. Not bad but jeez, for $20 a six pack there are better beers out there

Shouldn't be more than $18 a 6 pack for 28 Pale Ale. I rate it (actually, I rate all the Burleigh Brewing stuff that doesn't say "Duke" on it), but that could also be the fact there is no good beer in SE Qld.

You'd only be paying that much at BWS/Liquorland or one of the smallerindependents surely? Hovers around the $17 at Dan Murph's, well worth it, top drop. Haven't tried Duke, but I have a strong disdain for Hef. After enjoying real German Hefeweizen, there's no way Hef could live up to it

Actually I had a Big Head after reading in here that it was good. Sadly, do not rate...I found it odd in a way I can't explain

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is yet again my beer of the evening, this has been a staple in my house since Dans started importing it, and must be in other houses to, because it often sells out quite quickly! Such a fresh, floral beer, in the nicest possible way.

Dans + 1st Choice = SHIT (sorry Baz ;-) )

I know that I sell the Burleigh products cheaper than the nationals, $17.99 a six pack and $57.99 a case. Big Head at $14.99 a 6 pack and $47.99 a carton.

I'll remember that when Taittinger is again under 50 next week, and not tell you :fist:

We are ordinary for craft beer though, there isn't a lot of difference in price between us and indies, and its purely because buying power counts for nothing with small companies who can't afford to drop cost price for volume sales

BWS/Woolies Liquor/Macs Liquor and Liquorland are awful. Do not go there ever, prices are ludicrous.

I usually go to the 1st Choice near my house but I went looking for some Stone and Wood and I knew they didn't stock it there so I took a punt on the BWS

Live and learn

Really? They should stock it. I do, is even in the 1st Choice DC in NSW...then again, Pacific Ale is a long term out of stock at the moment

ever since First Choice opened up here, never been back to those rip off joints.

Not just the prices but the choices.

Both were limited releases available through Woolworths (Woolies Liquor, BWS + Dan Murphys). They also did Reschs Draught (YAY!!!), Abbot's Lager, and Ballarat Bitter. Link. If you ring around you might find a BWS with some stock, but be aware they are limited to their particular "State of Origin" (BB + Gold Top = Qld, Reschs = NSW, Abbot's + Ballarat = Vic).

The report I got on Brisbane Bitter was you would be better off drinking alcoholic sewage (which makes it better than Hammer + Tongs). Haven't heard anything about the Bulimba Gold Top.

There is one carton of Brisbane bitter at my local that hasn't moved an inch for a while.

I suspect it will be heavily discounted before they offload it.
