God, you are killing me. All I've had to eat today is a biscuit and the nearest Thai food is a ninety minute bullet train ride away in Shanghai.

That McDonalds I inevitably eat tonight is going to taste even more like ass than usual.

I love hotter food than most...but there is hot, and then there is Southern Highland/Northern Thai hot...get the wrong thing and it can literally blister your mouth.

There used to be a beer on the market called "Toohey's Extra Dry Platinum".

The stuff was rocket fuel for beer, about 6.5%, but they took it off the market about a year ago.

Does anyone know if there is a similar beer on the Aussie market (i.e., one that has 6.5% or higher alcohol content) please?

Many thanks in advance.

TED Platinum is still available. Just now its in a 6 pack and 5.3% abv.

Higher abv beers are not that common, but some include:

- Bavaria 8.6
- Carlsberg Elephant (probably the one you will see the most)
- Weihenstaphener Vitus

And a bunch more.

Awesome. Thanks for that SGLC, much appreciated!

Will be much fuller in flavour and maybe not your thing, but plenty of Belgian beers (and associated styles) go well above that

Had the mad brewers last year which was ~7%

I tend to like beers around the 4.5% mark I think but the occasional stronger one (Coopers Sparkling, Sheafs Stout) goes alright

Leffe or Duvel are good starting points. The Leffe Blonde is a fairly accessible beer and I think runs at about 6.3%. Duvel is delicious and more than that.

I have some Leffe Vielle Cuvee in my fridge right now (next to some Reschs, cos I'm classy like that). Stuff is 8.2%

Thanks Red Bear. I agree, don't wanna drink them all the time, but two or three Platinums first up used to go down a treat.

Haha got a case of Carlsberg Eephant last night. $65 from First Choice Liquor.

That stuff isn't for amateurs lol. Nice beer though, loved it.

Quality recommendation SGLC, cheers mate!

Seriously, I live around the corner from the Brewers Art. They do things in the Belgian style - on premises, and I already dread not being able to grab a pint there.

Seriously one of the best microbreweries I've managed to visit, let alone be lucky enough to live a block away from.

They have 2 brews as constants, a brown ale (resurrection) and a devil beer (ozzy), of which the ozzy is the pick IMHO. Both are around 7%.

The dark Proletary ale at 5% is the pick of the bunch for me, but is only done during the colder months.

That being said, their tripels at around 11% are also very fine. They have regular events with cask conditioned brews - and the last tripel ( a peppercorn) they did was absolute heaven.
