Will keep an eye out for it.

Had some 4 pines kolsch yesterday, that was an easy drinker. Nice beer.

Question to you beer heads, how do you learn to taste beer? I mean I can taste it, but picking shit out seems to to make no sense to me.

James Squire Pilsener. Not my favorite that I've had, there's a tang that I'm not fond of. Still, not the worst I've ever drank.

Squires as a brand is a solid introduction to each variety it sells. It's not excellent, but it isn't poor. It is par for the course.

The only exceptions are the Amber Ale and Pale Ale. The Amber Ale was THE beer in Australia for a long time, and still has plenty of lead in its pencil today. A classic of the Australian market. On the flip side, if the Pale Ale could be any more pedestrian it would be hit by a Pajero at a zebra crossing...

I've been slowly working my way through them. Had the golden ale on tap at the pub across the road from me, that was delicious. I'll take your recommendation and get some amber for Sunday.

My hate for Squires Pale revolves around their brand. JS has always been about "flavour" and good recreations of styles, be they amber, pilsner, porter, etc. Hell, at one point they were the only serious IPA on the market!

But then the Pale Ale came out, and they dragged themselves back into the domestic beer pack with it. It was an imitation Coopers Pale Ale (whether it is better or worse is for many a drunken debate), and alienated their clientele (not as bad as Cascade did with their "Premium Size" bottles however). JS has always been the bastard child of the Lion Nathan portfolio, but the Pale Ale dragged it kicking and screaming into the fold.

That is my humble opinion...

I reckon it sits between Coopers and Fat Yak. Sessionable pale ale, not a lot of hops, but tasty enough. Basically a typical Squires beer (bar the Porter, which is pretty damn good), entry level to the variety and beers you can have a few of rather than anything aimed at being a great beer

Got more Mildura Honey Wheat, and some James Squire Golden Ale. New stuff is Karl Strauss Red Trolley Ale and Four Pines Hefeweizen. The red trolley is nice, really sweet beer. Haven't cracked the hefe yet.

Had a flagon of Kereru Karengose. A nice drop.

Also had a flagon of Kereru velvet boot the other day. Aptly named...Belgian style ale 8.7%. Not as thick as the likes of Duvel or Chimay. Tastes more like a beer than them (much to my liking) and boots you up the backside. One downside though, had to brush my teeth three times and gargle more mouthwash than I have ever needed to eradicate the Chernobyl breathe.
