Beer Thread

Have been brewing my own beer lately. My latest batch I used a recipe from the local homebrew shop. Its called a cascade lager. The recipe is Golden Ale malt extract, 500grams of pilsener grain to obtain 1L of wort (basically more flavour and sugars for yeast to eat) A teabag of hops (not sure of the variety) Lager yeast, and I threw in an extra 500g of Dextrose to up the alcohol percentage. Its all bottled now, but I need to leave it for another 3 weeks or so as lagers take longer to mature. Will end up being about 5.5% alcohol.

My first batch of homebrew i am drinking now, its a blonde ale, but I just used a malt extract only. Its not too bad, tastes better than how I remember home brew to taste, but I did use a premium kit.

Finally tried Fat Yak on Saturday night.

Wasn't a fan after the first couple of mouthfuls but got used to it by the end of the schooner.

Little Creatures "Return of the Dread" Extra Stout. Very black, very thick, very alcoholic, very light on flavour.

so had one of these last night...

made me rather gassy this morning... and after the smell of those farts, i know know why they call it "dread"..

sorry for the TMI...

I've noticed a definite change in it from now compared to when I first started drinking it, about 3 years ago now.

Corona, Sol, Miller or XXXX Summer is the go...how people can drink beer so bitter that it melts your teeth is beyond me.

Burleigh Brewing Co "HassleHop" Strong Pale Ale. Burleigh's "Bit on the Side" beers tend to be either big hits or big misses. This is probably the first one to be somewhere in the middle. A solid Pale Ale, refreshing for a warm day but not a lot of oomph.

Sierra Nevada Hop Hunter IPA

It's Sierra Nevada, so it's gonna be good regardless. ind of like a halfway point between the Torpedo and the Hoptimum. More hoppy than the Torpedo, but more aromatic and less bitter than the Hoptimum. I see myself drinking far too much of it

I love my Sierra Nevada but the hop hunter was a little bit of a let down. Good hop profile, decent bitterness but didn't have the finish I was hoping for.

Decent beer but it falls short of my expectations :)

I really like it. I sort of see it as a sessionable version of the Hoptimum (which is wicked, but more than one or two is a hard ask)....not enough sessionable heavier pales around IMO

Aren't they all the same beer? :p

Tbh I'm a fan of almost all the Asian lagers, really. In that they're perfect for spicy food and hot weather.
