Nzs craft beer scene goes pretty good. Been grabbing 2 or 3 each shop. Everyone is obsessed with Heineken over here for some weird reason

American beers I should try: Go.

Obviously obscure craft beers will depend know whether I make it to their home town, but any decent mass produced beers, I'll grab on the way.

Sierra Nevada is probably the pick of the widely available craft beers. After that, it would all depend where you are. The USA tends to be like Britain in regards to beer, in that each locality will have heaps of options available (with the exception of those weird dry states & counties).

It depends on where you are travelling and what is available. Will keep it mainstream but here are a few breweries worth seeking out:

Sierra Nevada
Heretic
21st Amendment
Bear Republic
Rogue
Deschutes
Bells
Founders
Dogfish Head
Goose Island
Stone
Sweetwater
Abita

That's just sratching the surface. If in doubt, go with something local and you won't be disappointed.

I know Rogue and Deschutes from my last two visits. I wish I could justify revisiting Portland just for the beer scene, but it's nowhere near the rest of our destinations :(

Technically it is brewed in Copenhagen, but if you could drink a Motherpuncher Farmhouse IPA in honour of Mastodon while you are in Georgia that would be cool.

...or you could just drink Sweetwater (Atlanta) or Moon River (Savannah).

Portland is one of my favourite cities on earth. Would love to call it home someday.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for the beers you mention. Five weeks gives me plenty of drinking opportunities.

Nice. I'm not keen on two full days in DC, so might see if we can make a day of pub crawling Bawlmore.

Wharf rat and heavy seas oppen around lunchtime.
Wharf rat has been a bar since before independence, and has 3 half pints for 8 dollars

Brewers art has happy hour until 7 also, and the garlic fries are great.

Some great beers to be had in that group. Most Sierra Nevada beers are worth the try. Dogfish head 60 minute and 90 minute ipa's are brilliant. Stone ruination. So so many
