Ben Hunt -what are you?

I have not been one to bag Hunt but I just watched the replay of last nights test. 1 minute to go, aussies down by 2 points, DCE goes to dummy half on the last and it goes out to Ben Hunt.
Ben Hunt roofs it down the fullbacks throat. Not a bomb where there are chasers but a field possession kick way down field.
Understatement to follow in capitals.
BEN HUNT ISN'T FANTASTIC UNDER PRESSURE.
Yep, I screamed out when he did that, why the hell would you give possession away so easily with 1 minute to go, he could have put up a real bomb, with kick chasers a chance to get there, or a kick to a flying winger, but no, he kicked it downfield, no chance of getting possession back.

The guy is a dead set tool.

That’s my opinion, I can have it.

Big problem considering Widdop isn't either.
Widdop is better than Hunt. He's more talented and less precious. You are right though, he can definitely go missing when the heat is on and isn't going to save our skins in the big moments.
We need a cocky half like Soward again, those guys love the clutch play.

Johns called for a bomb at the same moment, which was fair enough. Hunt hasn’t really connected right all season. It’s another case of instinct right, execution wrong.
He doesn’t have the smarts, we can’t have him at our club as the key game maker and expect to be up there.
Mitchell damn Pearce is even streets ahead.

In respect of all the comments re Hunt learning, growing, down on confidence etc etc the simple fact is that he is not a clutch player.
He has more failures at critical moments than he has success so if you want him to succeed as a player overall then don’t go to him when the game us on the line unless you want him to take the line on as the only option.
He is 28 and if he can’t do it now then the bus has already well and truly left and he isn’t on it.
Over to Mc Fookknuckle to devise a game plan that doesn’t put Hunt under the pump.
Nice OT, put shit on Hunt with a little McFookknuckle on top.
Hunt’s a great player, glad to have him in the RedV.
According to you he’s missed the bus. How wrong you are.

Wake up fools, we have the best 6/7 in the NRL.

Hunt and Widdop are great players but neither are cocky clutch players.
We need a cocky little prick to ice games when they are on the line.
Who will fill that void?

Hunt and Widdop are not in the top echelon, we need top echelon.
Not b grade.
They aren’t c grade, nor are they a grade.
Results tell me, you and us that.
No deceit.

Not a saints fan but have been reading this thread .
I'm a Qlder & thought I'd give an unbiased opinion .
Hunt is a good no 7 ..also can make a good no9 .
At 7 if things are going good ..he can look like a future immortal .especially if he has a good halves partner .
His downfall & it's a big one is if the pressure is on he tends to fall to pieces in a big way .
He just can't handle pressure ...his football brain turns to mush .
& if his halves partner is injured or also quiet ...he just can't do it himself .

He's a great little defender ..has skill ....but doesn't have it at crucial times when needed most .

We have paid top money for two good halves. Neither is capatain material and neither can run a team properly. Even Bennett had trouble getting Hunt on song.

My suggestions are:

  1. Get Hunt some ongoing professional help to overcome his demons.
  2. Get someone in to coach our halves until they sort out their problems.
  3. Get a new top grade coach, soon there wont be any available.
  4. Appoint a new first grade captain Widdop does not have what it takes.

I am happy with both Hunt and Gaz. I think Gaz has been great for us, and Hunt will bounce back.

The key for me is getting the "best" out of them. Both. They need to be at their best for us to compete. Both are internationals, both have experience.. Damn good players IMHO.

Its as much as what happens at training, game planning, etc as it is game day that matters for both of them.

In that regard, I worry.

Totally share your concern.

I don't usually agree with you because I was hoping the Kiwis would win. They did, but I was saying it out loud to Benny "What the f**ck are you doing kicking down field with a minute to go. Impulsive choice and the wrong choice.
