Comedians often turn in good dramatic roles. Examples are Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting and Billy Connolly in The Last Samurai.

Comedians though are usually typecast.

I personally think Adam Sandler's two serious roles were pretty damn good for an actor with such a limited acting range as he has.

But it's pretty clear where their talents lie and they usually stick steadfastly to comedy roles.

Agreed. He's an ordinary comedian but he brought his A-game to both his dramatic roles.

Agreed. He was incredible in that movie. I really like him as an actor. He was good in Vicky Christina Barcelona too.

Only seen Aoyade in IT Crowd really, big fan of Mitchell and Atkinson though. Rowan Atkinsons best stuff is probably hist stand up vids (which were basically sketches anyway), brilliant.

Edward Norton - Primal Fear, outstanding.

Going out on a limb here, I loved Jim Carrey's performance in Man on the Moon.

My favourite Jim Carrey Movie. Brilliant!!
I loved him in The Cable Guy, that film is so underrated IMO.

Aoyade was also in the Mighty Boosh and is in a movie later this year with Ben Stiller I believe.

Aside from that, he directed (I think, may have been producer) of the movie Submarine from last year which was also very good imo.

JK Simmons belongs on an underrated list.

A scene stealer who's presence can almost redeem a whole movie (Burn After Reading, Spiderman 1-3).

Edward Norton is a fine actor but in American History X was nothing short of outstanding.

Some others I hold in high regard:
- Jeffery Dean Morgan and Jackie Earle Haley in Watchmen
- Christian Bale in just about anything, esp Equilibrium and The Fighter
- Heath Ledger in TDK
- Jim Cavaziel in The Count of Monte Cristo (underrated movie and performance)
- The main three in LA Confidential
- Val Kilmer in Tombstone, his career best

You can rely on Kevin Spacey and Gary Oldman to deliver no matter what role/movie, and Michael Fassbender is showing plenty of promise in the new crop.
