i'll have to say Ride the Lightning... apart from escape, every single f**king song kicks serious ass.

AJFA had a lot of potential though, you have 3 masterpieces on that album: One, Justice For All and To Live is to let Die. But it also has some really sh*tty songs as well

So close to going for ...And Justice as I think that it was thier peak when it came to song writing and scructure but hearing classics like Sanitarium and Master of Puppets tied it. The clincher is The Thing That Should Not Be, f***ing loved the fact thier played that at thier Syd Ent. gig on the last tour. Went for Puppets.

Just as a side poll.. What is your favourite song 1 on any of the albums..

you could make a damn good EP with just the first tracks.

Hit the Lights is an old favourite of mine

FFWF - great song, they opened up their last Brisbane concert with this song and blew everyone away straight up !!

Battery - Does it get any better or heavier??

Blackened - Great song, can listen to it over and over and never get sick of it

Sandman - What can you say.. Not my favourite by any means but still a great opener

Aint my Bitch - Honestly i'd probably leave this one off

Fuel - Good song, worthy inclusion

And

Mong, if we're playing first tracks I'd probably go "Blackened" by a nose over "Battery". But to be honest None of the openers are my fave tracks on their respective albums. In fact I doubt if any of them would even make my top three of each album.

Personal top three from each album:

Kill 'em All
-Whiplash
-The Four Horsemen
-Anaesthesia

Ride the Lightning
-Creeping Death
-Fade to Black
-For Whom the Bell Tolls

Master of Puppets
All of side 2. Yes I know that's 4 tracks, but I can't split them.

...And Justice For All
-Dyers Eve
-One
-To Live is to Die

Black Album
-Unforgiven
-Wherever I May Roam
(don't really care for the rest of it that much)

never really listen to the later stuff.....

I think Kill em all was their best, simpply because it was so raw and heavily influenced by Dave Mustaine - a far superior guitarist to Kirk hammett.

Had some great classics like seek and destroy and the four horseman. This was when they really played for their own enjoyment and the enjoyment of their fans.

Nowdays I couldn't be bothered pissing on any of their albums after Justice

Mustain better then Hammett...

Lol, thems fighting words :)

I'll back that up, Mustaine is a better guitarist technically than Hammet, listen to a lot fo the Megadeth stuff, he shreds. However Hetfeild & Ulrich are much better songwriters than Mustaine so the Metallica material generally pisses on Megadeth from a fair height. I don't mind the first three 'Deth albums though.

Aye. Besides Kill 'em All most 'Deth stuff doesn't really do anything for me. More a poor man's Metallica, but I know thousands will disagree with that. Hetfield is the man.

I actually think Megadeth have been far more consistent - perhaps because they never became crap like Metallica did. Holy Wars is as good as anything Metallica ever did.

Anyway, I know it's considered the 'popular' answer but I can't go past Master of Puppets. Some great riffs and Sanitarium remains an all-time classic.

The Black Album, as good as it was, was also the start of the end for Metallica - and we all know the crap they've served up since.

Mustaine is a brilliant guitarist, but probably only an average vocalist. If they had someone like Hetfield doing the vocals for Megadeth, they would have been unbelieveable. I like both bands, but probably still prefer Megadeth.

I voted for ...And Justice for All, slightly ahead of Master of Puppets.
