BGA Store "Soft Opening"

The Club buys them from ISC and sells them at RRP. As I alluded to, our club can not sustain a mid teens percentage for sales commission. 10% is cutting deeply into the stores profitability.

So they are tied to ISC because of the jersey deal then ? If that limits their ability to make a decent dollar on associated merchandise then maybe they need to rethink the jersey deal when the current one ends.

Cutting deep into profitability?

They have one person, generally a trainee on the counter (when they were inside the Leagues Club it was Leagues Club staff running that and the Ticketek desk)..... and they buy the same stock that everyone else does and seems to be able to sell cheaper. Our local store is a family owned and run business and wouldn't have the buying power of a Rebel Sport or Peter Wynns yet is still able to sell them cheaper.

Hey I am just passing that information on, I have been told that the profit margins on the BGA store are very close, maybe I should email Chris and tell him to get the same deal your Manly store up there has.

I might go for a walk to Peter Wynns today to find out what they are selling the Polo's for.

The difference is Mark, if you ask Wynnie's for a good price, they'll give you one.

They will always beat the cheapest price.

I went into Wynnie's a few hours ago and then compared the prices with the BGA store.

Wynnie's the Same 2 Club polos, the BGA Store have and are cheaper, by 5c, and that is according to the Price gun label a discount of $10 @ Wynnies. (it has 89.95 above the shop name and the larger 79.95 under the shop name).

Looking at all the club Polo's, ours are middle of the Road, with the Hummel Cowboys polo's 5 dollars more. The Xblades Bulldogs polos at 74.95 and the KooGo Storm polo the cheapest at 69.95. These polos are all in the NRL Authentic range, meaning they have the sponsors logos and are something you will see the players or staff in.

There are some cheaper polos in the "Team" Range, these do no have sponsors logos. They are about $54.95 - $59.95 each. BGA Store sells these polos at the same price (well $60 and $50), they are made by Classic sports were in there 40/20 range.
However these are all Polyester.

All new team Jerseys at Wynnies at 169.95, the same as the BGA store, except Wynnies don't have the Heritage Jersey in yet while the BGA store do.

Also there might be discounts for FC members, but don't expect them to be the same as last year.

Put it this way, people who are always on the look out for the best deal won't always shop at the BGA store, but for its convenience on game day, it will do a roaring trade.

They must have had a sale last week because the white polos were $54.95 last Thursday and the training shirts were on special for $55.

I like the fact that you can go into Wynnies and ask for a deal. Generally it's good service and you will get things a bit cheaper.

I won't buy much on game day unless it's something I want that can't be bought anywhere else. And I think most will agree it's good the BGA store are selling exclusive items. It just doesn't make me want to spend overs in there for other things though.

Yes, I think merchandise (whether it be NRL, cricket, whatever) is generally over priced for what you are getting. Supporter gear is great advertising for sporting clubs and sponsors, and you're expected to pay through the roof to become a walking billboard for a club you support.

I think it's probably been 3 years since I bought any type of 'supporter' gear. And then, I'll go to where I get the best value. Whether it be price or quality (and I HATE polyester FFS). Especially if I'm being asked to blow 80 bucks on a polo......

I'm more than happy to support the club each and every year by buying my season ticket and popping into the leagues club for a feed here and there.

That`s the world we live in today. Every time you put on a Nike t-shirt or a pair of Asics joggers, you become a walking bill-board, and pay for the priveledge. We are a corporate society now, aren`t we? Wouldn`t have happened in the sixties. ".......Lucy in the sky with diamonds".

Surely the cut into the profit would be minimal due to fact the club owns the property so no rent to cover and staff are already employed by the club so no recruitment drive. Anyway i just think the club is ripping off the people who support it. Wouldnt it be better to sell bulk goods at minimal profit than have stock trickle out the door because they want to make maximum cash.
