BGA Store "Soft Opening"

They would be stupid to put the prices higher in the shop then at Rebel or Peter Wynn's.

MITS, is the price of the polo you bought higher then Rebel, etc?

Like I mentioned, the shop will have items that you cant buy elsewhere...

Not quite sure, I haven't purchased anything at Winnies for about 4 years and always buy at the club, partially for my 10% discount. I remember going through Rebel and Mick Simmonds in the City and they were more expensive than the Parra Footy Heaven.

Then again the old shop had exclusive merchandise, IIRC you, I and Stagger were wearing them most of the winter this year, they will be the same sort of things that are exclusive this year indeed for the most part the same items, with a few more added.

I have heard another fun story about price gouging recently in relation to rugby league, and if what is being considered happens, I can tell you right now, it will be interesting to see what happens for Round 2 of the premiership after the fall out.

What discount?

I was discussing this with Chris at the BGA store. While last year, STH and B&G Army members received a 10% discount on all purchases, this year the only get a $20 voucher to use once during the year.

The only club that as far as I can see still gets their discount at the BGA Store is the Eels Supporters club.
Thanks for that Mark. Seems pretty crap just 1 $20 voucher when all there gear is above RRP already. You would think being the official club merchandise retailer the prices would be below RRP as the cashole goes straight to the club.

That's a good point. Many people have already invested their hard earned on season tickets and memberships.
Unless the merchandise store can be competitive with other retail outlets, I think we'll find that better bargains can be found elsewhere.
I certainly think that this is an issue that needs to be taken up with the NRL. Surely some of this stuff shouldn't be in the $150 - $200 price bracket. Surely production costs are FARRRR less than this, and greed has got the better of the the NRL, as it has with most other sports.

Let's get the jump on the new western Sydney AFL bunch of wankers and undercut their merchandise before they even get a chance.

Jodeci, I think the main point that people are trying to get through is that Winnies will price match if you find the same item, cheaper elsewhere ASAIK including sales.

Now when the Parra Footy Heaven had a 10% discount that would be hard to beat most of the time, but without that and without a promise to match or beat any stores advertised price including specials, some people will just as well send there business elsewhere.

I had a discussion recently with a Psychologist about people and loyalty in purchasing, sadly for Western Culture, no matter how much advertising you put out there to buy aussie or be loyal to the club, when it comes to the crunch people will pick the cheaper or easier item because the purchase is all about them. In the asian culture that was compared against, no matter where a member of the culture is, if they have the choose of an item from their home country and a comprable one from another country, they will always choose the one from their home culture.

Suity, a little tip, and I am sure our good mate Parra-matters might add on to this one, while production might be cheap or what ever, the club purchases items and sells them at the RRP. The margin the club makes is not enough to satisfy a percentage sales cut of mid teens that some venues are asking for the club to sell merchandise at that venue.

The prices are RRP as far as I know.
As you said when they are competing with retailers who will match the price or better it by 10% I'd like to think they would have a lower price to compete. And the store is sort of out of the way so you have to make fans want to travel out of their way to purchase there.

from my experience, wynnies will give u a deal - the 10% off at the parra shop just helped bring it to wynnies price level .... if all things are equal I'd buy at the parra store to help teh club, but as ppl have said this sh*t is over priced to start with, I'm not gonna pay more - i already pay for a season ticket I generally only get to use for half the games

Fair enough, I do like the idea of stuff like the Bulldogs Semi DVD etc but I'm still going to shop around for everything else. I will look in there though, but I'm sceptical that they will be cheaper than regular retailers.

I can't see the Bulldogs Semi Final DVD doing good business at $30 a go, when people that are keen and have the technology could have secured their own copy (with favoured commentary) a few months ago at the time for free...

Everyone has their limit with how much they want to/are able to spend re the club/team. Given STHs went up by 70 odd bucks this year, I personal know that's 70 bucks less I will be spending on other things, voucher or no vouvher.

I'd like to reply to that Mark but it makes no sense whatsoever.

Please re-read your posts before you post them, and at least try and get the grammar correct.

.

Being an Asian and living in Asia, I don't agree with that.

Asians, if they can afford it, (i.e. middle class and above) with buy the brand that they think implies quality. They are more Brand conscious although certain countries portray quality to them.

Cars have to be German(besides Lambos, Ferraris, et al). Luxury Bags from Italy. Watches from Switzerland. Electrical Appliances from Japan + Samsung.

Look around Sydney. Alot of asians prefer to drive BMW, Mercs, etc.

Chinese people in China don't even buy Chinese if they can help it because of poor quality control and fakes. e.g. Baby milk powder.

Asians don't really look at the Made in .... as much, but more the Brand name. e.g. Samsung.

Just an FYI Strider, the Pre-Season Polo,

players-polo.jpg

It is made of 60% cotton and 40% ployester.

Trust me was nice and cool to wear in the heat at Toronto last Saturday.

It's listed as the player's polo in the ISC catalogue

Ahhh Suity.

I have written the above with great care, if you take more than a few seconds to read it you can figure it out, but that is all I am prepared to write on the subject at the moment.

Yeah I agree. I don't intend on spending much on merchandise this year.

The players polo and most other gear that I priced both at Parra Footy Heaven and Peter Wynns is generally dearer than the Manly Essentials shop we have here in Moree. BGA/PFH is in most cases $10 to $20 more expensive than a lot of other places.

A mate of mine has a business that supplies custom Polos etc to companies. He makes a good profit yet only sells them for $20-$30 for a small bulk order. You've gotta question why PFH feel the need to seemingly mark up their cost price by 500%, 600% or even 700%.

This is what I question - yes it earns the club a profit but surely there are better ways to earn a dollar than stiffing the people that actually buy the stuff and are happy to put the dollars into the club.

I had to laugh looking at the prices - all the gear is the exact same stuff that is found in BGA/PFH and Peter Wynns and while there may well be some 'exclusive' purchases to be had at the official store it certainly isn't worth it.

The Club buys them from ISC and sells them at RRP. As I alluded to, our club can not sustain a mid teens percentage for sales commission. 10% is cutting deeply into the stores profitability.

people buying cheaper elsewhere will also cut into the profitability. I can not see this store opening 9-5 6 days a week, the demand just isn't there.

Cutting deep into profitability?

They have one person, generally a trainee on the counter (when they were inside the Leagues Club it was Leagues Club staff running that and the Ticketek desk)..... and they buy the same stock that everyone else does and seems to be able to sell cheaper. Our local store is a family owned and run business and wouldn't have the buying power of a Rebel Sport or Peter Wynns yet is still able to sell them cheaper.
