Big News - 6 about to be dropped

I'm not keen on sacking these guys. Too much talent to waste there and in the end they've done something mildly irresponsible, not illegal. But I'd like to see them forced to work their way back into the side with an extended spell in NSW Cup and fined heavily, with the fines being proportional to their contracts, so Manu and Mutts will cop it more heavily being on bigger money.

It is illegal to take/give or have in your possession prescription medication that is not prescribed to you.
So unless those that took the medication were all prescribed it, it is illegal activity.

I hope Manu can sort his shit out and regain some of the mana he has clearly lost. But as good as he's been over the years there's gotta be some reasonable players in line for his spot at this point. Probably time to give them their shot.

This is all a such a huge shame. Among other things I was hoping Manu had a decent couple of seasons left in him to get a bit further up the all-time try-scorer leaderboard.

Re how did the players get hold of the pills, it's pretty common for club doctors to give out sleeping pills to players across alot of the codes, where teams that are travelling across time zones and playing at night. It'd be interesting to see if the Warriors club doc gave them to all/ some of the players after arriving home from Melbourne. Who has been club doc since Mayhew has been in hospital?

2 yrs back both Corry Jane and Isreal Dagg were found doing the same thing. Both have still been in ABs frame since.

2-3 years ago the EPL had alot players using these when travelling across Europe. The FA itself didn't seem to have much of a problem with it at the time but unsure what their stance is now though.

This is definitely a world wide sport issue and not just a league issue. Maybe it's just that the league boys keep getting caught out. Is it actually illegal to mix the pills and energy drinks? Dylan Walker and Aaron Grey didn't get stood down from Souths/Manly before Xmas or deregistered by the NRL. Maybe code of conduct issues only but interesting to see what the wash up will be over coming weeks

He clearly wants out? Says who?

I assume if you f**k up and are sorry for what you have done you take a different approach to thing eg posting something along the lines of " sorry to all fans, family etc I have let down by my actions.

Vs

paraphrasing "if you talking shit about me, come say it to my face"

So seems to me to want out, as I am sure it is not club policy to seemingly challenge fans and people to some form of fight.

Walker and Grey also didn't mix sleeping pills and Red Bull, I believe in their case it was a mixture of opiate based painkillers (oxycodone) and booze, a much more dangerous combination.

He clearly wants out.
So release him.

I think his behavior clearly demonstrates he likes collecting a huge pay cheque but has no respect for supporters and at 30 years old should not be in a leadership group for the club.

Hurell and Manu and their social media.....
Surely Hurrells retweet is sackable in itself?

Manu, you buggered up. We pay for the club with our salaries so you can get yours. You buggered up, man up. I get you are under the public eye therefore the pressure is on you, but don't hit out at fans for having opinions.

Maybe, but these guys don't operate on what most of us would consider a normal rational and responsible manner . Most of them seem to be overgrown kids, lacking emotional maturity. Still don't think they or he want out though, rather just being a dick who doesn't know when to shut the f**k up.

Sadly I don't think this will be the end of it.
The club will swing in behind Cappy, who I still don't think is a good coach.
Then we will go through another phase of rebuilding.
And another poor season of 'getting used to each other'.
Then disappointment.
Then start again.
Is it worth it?
Can't we just get a proven coach who will bring good players with him and go from there.

I want to see what McFadden can do with this team with all the dead wood removed, before I write him off as a crappy coach.

The Dragons were shit no doubt, but for the first time in a long time we played an actual game of footy and looked like we can genuinely foot it with the rest of the league. We do that every week and we should land in the eight.

The question must be asked though. Are these the only players in the club using this cocktail of pills and energy drinks or are there more who just weren't present on this occasion?

There is a reason that no proven coach has wanted to come here. It's not through lack of trying.

They know they'd have to clean out the roster to remove the toxic culture. Fan favourites would be out the door and the backlash from the public wouldn't be worth the personal drama.

Much easier to stay at their clubs where the players, even if they're slightly less talented, want to act like grownups.

Sorry, I don't agree with this.
We had a proven coach in Cleary, he led us to the GF. We then had a proven coach in Bluey who coached 2 teams in bartercard cup victories, won the tri-series with the Kiwis and also had superleague success. Then we had Elliot who won the SL, took another team to the GF and also lead Penrith to second or third as well.

Theres only so many coaches that can fail until you need to look for alternatives.
Right now we have found the cause of the problem. These tweets, this going out and mixing prescription drugs with energy drinks, missing/late to a teem meeting. Was this McFaddens doing? NO

McFadden may not be a proven coach, but he has brought good players in. RTS is class, sadly got injured. We all know what Luke is capable. Ayshford looks to have been a great pick up. Robson was a good signing on merit, fairly cheap I'd imagine. I just hope he doesn't block the path of a Hingano or Lino. Lane has potential, as does Sao.

I'm not saying McFadden is a good coach by any means, nor am I entirely confident he will be the man to lead us to a maiden title, but he needs a damned chance. He needs more of a chance than we gave Bluey, he needs more of a chance we gave Elliot. If we get rid of McFadden and not the players, what kind of message does that send out? What 'proven' Coach will want to move across the ditch, to a club who already has a concerning record of sacking coaches, in an attempt to get the best out of a bunch who seem to acting like petulant teenagers.

Sacking the coach, and hiding this issue under the rug and moving on won't help.
There needs to be change, and while I understand the 'sacking the coach' arguement, but it is not the answer.

We need to draw a line here.

If we were to punt these players, really what have we lost? Lane, Palavi, Sipley, Lousi, Gubb made an alright show of it. Big Ali is killing it from all reports and then theres ones like Bunty Afoa who won't be far off

Outside backs we're doing alright with Fusitua, Allwood, Ayshford, Kata, Lolohea, Wells on board, not to mention Lolohea.

Look at what these guys have actually been achieving on field

Hurrell - Sporadic interchange appearances.
Vatuvei - 30yr old winger, who seems to be getting injured more
Matulino - Potentially in the best 5 props in the game, on his day. On his day. We havn't had one of those days in a while.
Thompson - Earned a starting spot last year, however this year he has also seemed to have dropped off a wee bit
Vete/Lisone - Both have recently started, both appear to have huge futures. These are the two that I'd accept another chance.

FWIW, I wouldn't be opposed to keeping Vete, Lisone, Matulino and Thompson but have them on a final notice. Hurrell and Vatuvei should go, you can't have a player publicly suggest the players aren't behind the coach, and you can't have another player telling fans to not have an opinion and carry on the way he has.

So now I am hearing they were taking prescription painkillers and Red Bull not sleeping pills.

Does anyone know a source for this?

I have not seen that anywhere yet Rich, but jeez, I hope it's wrong. Nothing would surprise me now though.
