Luke MacDougall - thought he would end up playing SOO footy after he left souths and did nothing with either the Dragons or Knights and now has ended up with Melbourne.

Lindsay Lohan.

Use to be so hot in Mean Girls with those massive ( . )( . )s, but then she replaced food with drugs, & she's never been the same since.

she hasnt been the same since she signed with the other team

He was talked up big time. Unfortunately, by the time he got to first grade it looked like he'd swallowed a cow whole. His figures in Bartercard were amazing.

so much so that he was named in the nz tri nations team in 04 without having played fg, played one fg game in 06 where about the only thing he did was send gower to hospital i think he may have suffered from the craigie syndrome

just looking on this thread its sad too see so many players who could have been world beaters but ended up just getting beaten

interesting thread. ive always wondered how much talent is an actual factor in producing a successful footy player and how much is mental strength and work ethic.

what do u guys think?

There are a lot of u16s-19s going around who are freakishly good players... problem is 95% of them are more interested in pissing up and rooting. The difference between a good footballer who makes it a career and someone who ends up playing A grade at their local is commitment.

Wayne Bennett brought Ken Gittins with him to the Raiders. He was going to be the next Mal Meninga. He went to the Broncos with Wayne I never heard of him again,

Shannon Walker- remember watching qld cup finals 2 year ago and saw him play he absolutely tore the team apart, i thought to myself this kids going to be better than matty bowen, since then hes played a few games for forthe titans and has done absolutely nothing.

Weller Huraki and Taulima tautai, so much talents but dont have the work ethic.

other michael lett, richi williams, eddy paea aaron groom, arana tuamata , tevita latu

I remember that game- the 2007 Qld Cup Grand Final against Redcliffe, he tore it up indeed! You never know, he's still young and could return to form, look at Jarryd Hayne this past 12 months...

Craig Field is a player who immediately springs to mind on this list though- he was a brilliantly gifted player, but unfortunately his personal life began to influence his on-field performances too much and he couldn't stay focused enough to be consistent, which separates great players from talented ones, along with a healthy sense of self- discipline.

In the modern game I'd nominate Willie Mason. From 2002-04 he was arguably the most explosive forward in the game, every match there's be at least one mega hit-up from him and he was a real danger player. These days though- he's up there with Carl Webb in the "underachiever" stakes. Willie just doesn't seem to have his head in the right zone, his efforts for Easts this year were quite pedestrian, paycheque football at it's finest.

On the centenary of Rugby League DVD box set, one of the people they talk to about juniors, scouting and development said something that will always stay in my head about followning through on talent. He basically said that the clubs can make them faster, stronger and upskill them, but they can never change the fight or determination that they've got, and it's what sets those who make it above those who don't. Since I saw that, every time I watch Toyota Cup, I try and split apart the lazy players from those who don't give in.

Not quite. It was Noel Cleal and he said " you can make them faster, stronger, you can up-skill them. but you cant give them anymore savvy"

He doesnt mention anything about work ethic there. Its more about knowledge of the game.

Michael Lett - Has showed a lot of promise in limited time in first grade. Really hoping he gets more of a run in first grade with dell most likely moving on. Has speed, ability and a knack for finding the line and if he gets some solid consistent first grade under his belt can be a very good winger or fullback

That's not really a waste of talent at all, certainly not in the context of this thread anyway. Lett is quality and it's only a matter of time until he gets his shot at first grade.

Brett Seymour - Was supposed to be the five eigth version of Langer. Was moved to halfback and hit the bottle, wasn't the same player.

Neville Costigan - Can't keep focused, has a lot of talent otherwise.

Sione Faumuina - Had all the ball skills to make it, just couldn't keep his head straight.

Reni Maitua - Was going to be the best lock in the game once Kennedy retired, played for Australia, got injured was never the same.

Paul Franze was great in Jersey Flegg and Premier League

Then he went to Cronulla, Penrith (where he was improving rapidly) and finally to London Irish RU which pretty much killed his career

Matt Gafa - Superstar in PL, they guy had it all, speed, power, nice footwork, good fend, solid defender, ball skills and amazing kicking %, not sure what happened in FG

And the other raiders mentioned i agree with: McLinden, Zillman, T.Carney, Lightning and Vainikolo

Owen Craigie is the stand out for mine.
lol, this guy was average. played with him and against him... terrible if you put pressure on him.
agree with the others you said.
i thought asbok would have been better than he showed?
