I believe our roster is complete for 2016, I am sure Gaz knows more than all of us on this forum, his suggestion of shifting Widdop to fullback and playing McCrone @ number 7 is pretty spot on.

Gaz is off his head, Widdop doesn't have the running game of a fullback and would be much better at 6/7. He is right about Dugans poor passing game but Widdop to 1. is definitely not the solution.

Mccrone needs man of the match/player of the year type of games for the Cutters before he gets a look in FG.

Or injury cover

Something needs to change in the halves. Benji and Widdop had a full pre-season and season together in 2015 and this combination did not fire up our attack. At times it was so frustrating to watch.

The least that should happen is for Benji to move to 6. Try Mann and Widdop at fullback and at halfback in the trials.

If we do sign Roberts then the Cutters will field a very strong side.

I'm tipping Havili to occupy the final bench spot mainly because Rein is not an 80min hooker and Havili can also play in the backrow. I'd see him playing a similar role to that which Dean Young used to play.

Agree don't rate him much.
Would rather hope that Mann slots into to 6 eventually & does well to start off with us.

Interesting. Plus it has actual quotes, not just speculation like most of the other recent articles

Bird 'more likely' to stay a Shark

Mon 21 Dec, 2015, 3:00pm
By Tony Webeck *, Chief Queensland Correspondent, NRL.com

Reigning NRL rookie of the year Jack Bird has said that he is "more likely" to stay at his current club Cronulla but admitted that the potential of a huge financial windfall will form a big part of his decision.

Off contract at the end of the 2016 season, Bird has been linked with a possible return to St George Illawarra where he played much of his junior football but told Denan Kemp's The Locker Room podcast that he is happy at his current club. "There is a bit of speculation there. Obviously a lot of people are wondering what I'm doing in the near future but I'm working with my manager to sort that thing out," Bird told The Locker Room.
"There are a lot of things going on; I couldn't tell you where I'm going to be. I'm happy to stay at Cronulla, we've just got to sort out a deal there. I'm more likely to stay there but we're still working it out so we'll just have to wait and see I guess."

Cronulla's signing of James Maloney and Chad Townsend over the off-season will likely necessitate a shift for Bird from five-eighth where he made an instant impression in the top grade. After making his NRL debut in Round 4 Bird was selected at halfback for Country in the annual clash with City and finished the season with 23 games and the honour as the Dally M Rookie of the Year. A Junior Kangaroos representative in the centres, Bird's versatility makes him a prized signature and he said that the quality of the football team will play a big bearing on his decision.

"Obviously you've got to go for what's the best deal for you," Bird said. "Obviously you've got to have a good coach to learn your best football; players, you've got to have some good players around you but most of all you've just got to look after yourself. You can't sell yourself short. You've just got to look after yourself and go where you think you're going to play your best football."

You obviously did not take any notice of Widdop's performances as a fullback when he was filling in for Slater at the Storm. And check out Widdop's 2015 running game on YouTube from this season. I think you will be surprised.

He is quicker than you think, and was often Johnny to on the spot for a great covering tackle when needed.

If Bird does turn out signing a Sharks' contract again can we stop the Bird fantasises for a while. It would mean he left the Dragons and has turned his back on a Dragon's offer. We can talk about all the possible scenarios, but the bottom line is he has decided he doesn't want to be with us.

Well said we only want players who want to be part of the culture of the Big Red V and if they can't come to an agreement quickly then most likely they are just shopping everyone and have no great desire to be anywhere in particular.

I suspect the "Player Manager" has become far too powerful and of course financially dependent on contractual outcomes and has very little concern for players future or development.

It's time to put Bird in the trash bin with Farrah, Hiku, Roberts and any another "big signings" that weren't ever coming.

Does anyone know why crook was not kept?

He was a genuine half that looked good anytime I saw him.

And when I awoke
I was alone
This Bird had flown.

I love his quote "You can't sell yourself short.." He's always had tags on himself..thats why he left because he thought he had a right to be in FG from the outset.

Forget him and his attitude..not worth it.

Why are we still going on about Jack "figjam" Bird? He's gone, and he's definitely replaceable!
