Did you all bitch and whinge about the $100 built for two privately owned clubs? Or is that okay because it happens to be a sport you follow?

Narrow minded pricks.

No we didnt because both stadiums attract more crowds in 1 game than this folly will in an entire year.

Besides mate it has alredy been made clear numerous times on this thread that that money has more urgent needs. ie Health and Emergency services. Seems that your the narrow minded one champ.

Exactly I live on the coast it can only be a good thing for the state. Also whats with all this gay talk? Are you like homophobic or something?

Tight shorts, sleeveless jerseys, "melees". Not hard to draw conclusions is it

Basically.

-Rebuilt Lang Park.
-Built Robina from the ground up.
-Carried out upgrades and renovations to Dairy Farmers.

.

Also rebuilt the Gabba which was mainly for the benefit of fumbleball.

People vote on issues that affect/annoy them the most.

This could be one of them

Get over it.

wasn't there some sort of exclusivity clause surrounding that?

I can see the GC cross-country basketball team getting decent crowds but having a poor following - every Victorian in the country will want to schedule their holiday to coincide with their team's game up there. Wouldn't be suprised to see home fans outnumbered at almost every game.

Why would we vote to have more Victorians come up here,

and that clause re the Gabba was lifted.

I wish our Govt would spend money on some new stadiums!

You can spend infinitely on hospitals and schools etc and still not have a service people are happy with. They are a massive black hole and the odd $100mill here and there makes not much difference in the overall health and education budgets.

Mr Angry, you are aware the Gabba is used for AFL during the winter????? this is not having a go at you either.
Yes recently Fitzroy have been playing and whinging about the fact it is a cricket ground. Was part of what I said too.

Cricket has been played there for over a century, Fitzroy a decade or so.

The Gold Coast has a new stadium, other areas should be getting funding way before attempting to fix a crap field in a bad place.

Bad decision, poor policy.

One thing I don't understand is why did Bligh think that promising $60m to build an AFL stadium would win her votes? The vast majority of the QLD public dislike AFL and many will vote against her purely for this reason. Not to mention all the people who want the money to go to hospitals, education, transport etc. instead. I thought she was more in touch with the public.

And before the AFL trolls say anything about the new melbuorne stadium its already on its way to paying for itself thanks to the SOO & tests, not to mention the games soccer will bring, and the tourism $$$$$ these bring into the state.

I'm sure she will market it as putting the GC forward as a nationally significant region by having all the major countries sporting codes played there. It actually makes good business sense from a point of view of attracting visitors to the area and free publicity every time they are on TV at home or mentioned in the national papers. You can't buy that sort of publicity.

It places the GC up alongside the countries other major cities and that is what she will have been advised and be aiming for.

So what, some of the new jerseys in other sports including rugby are tight too. Are swimmers gay because they wear tight clothes? ROFL who cares about AFL, NRL is a better sport but using all these childish names it just makes us look stupid. All I have said is creating jobs can only be a good thing.

Gold Coast Channel 9 reported the strongest response they've ever had to a phone poll the other night. 82% of Gold Coasters said NO to the AFL stadium.

A recommendation...if you have no idea about something you should just stfu.

Qld has one of the worst public infrastrucutres in the world.

Case in point:

Police - police numbers especially in the Logan and GC area are heavily underresourced. Equipment is outdated, many crews cannot get on the road because there are not enough cars.
The police academy is 50 years and is falling apart. The new academy which was promised a few years ago has now been called off because the Qld Gvment does not have enough money.

Public transport - Rail in SEQLD is abysmal...trains do not run from the hours of 1am-5am...there have been times where after going for a night out into town you have to wait around for hours before the next train comes. Hinterland GC has no regular rail services, ever expanding west brisbane has insufficient services.

Ambulance - ambulances are heavily under resourced

Hospitals - lets not even start, its a mess.

Roads - its taken 10 years for the Labour government to upgrade roads and its only cause their hand was forced, still not enough. As witnessed in the Pac Mwy crash of 06 on north GC the entire SEQLD road network will shutdown if a major accident happens on the over-relied Pac Mwy.

Dont piss in ppls pockets about how it will give people jobs, Qld government should be investing in public jobs to give people steady employment that benefits the community...not a stupid stadium that will give people temporary jobs and only benefits Victorians.
100% spot on. Our roads, hospitals and Schools are a mess. And she can find 60 million for a bunch of Victorian rejects......

Please, spare me your scaling of the moral high ground. AFL is the enemy and should be treated as such.
All I have said is creating jobs can only be a good thing.

And you are wrong. Building this stadium at the expense of Health, Emergency Services, Infrastructure and Education is beyond stupid, its negligent.

I still couldn't bring myself to vote for Borg - Queensland's economy is bad enough as it is and you want to destroy it even more with this guy?
Geez can't there be someone else running?
I'll probably do Greens but that goes to Labor anyway doesn't it?
