Geez I thought with all the Snowden love that we actually had go forward now?? When are we going to get some go forward then????? It seems as though we've never had it.

As far as I'm concerned we have horrible play makers and have since AJ retired. Mullo does look a shit load better this year but our halves really don't create much to trouble the scoreboard. I don't see any arguments there. Kurt has to go. Fingers crossed Tyrone produces something and Bennett finds Gidley a position.

Look, Mullen is never gonna be a great play maker. Just watching some highlights of Thurston, Benji or even Johnson... They put people into gaps amazingly and when you look at Mullen, he looks like he is gonna fall over when he tries to dummy Benji style.

Mullen shouldn't have to think about putting people into gaps.
His job should be:

1. Run the ball wide of the ruck
2. Give early long balls to the centres, wingers
3. Sniff for offloads around the ruck
4. Kick our long kicks
5. Put in grubbers for repeat sets
6. Defend well (he is an amazing defender this year)

He shouldn't even try to play anything like AJ. Should model his game on Lockyer's or Fitler's. Been saying this for YEARS!

I actually thought this was his best game since the Sharks game.

The set plays were looking good then Sau and maybe even Uate were too flat and Boyd doesn't know what option to take, but the plays looked quick and fluid so, it's starting to come together.

Boyd has not been as good as Kurt was at fullback - fact.

Kurt was our best player.
We paid for a high priced import to replace him for some reason, and up to this point, it's money wasted that we could have spent on another prop.

Jokes aside I have to agree with this (for now). Boyd really needs to pull his finger out and rediscover his 2010 form for us to justify the princely sum we're paying him. He's supposed to be one of our marquee players and if we're going to threaten for the premiership we need him firing on all cylinders.

we paid for a high priced import to solve our halves issues, not any fullback issues. not a wise move for mine, but eh... Boyd will do the job. it's easy to lay the boot in at the moment, but hopefully it won't matter soon enough. it's not like he hasn't had touches of genuine class, and you're being intentionally obtuse, biased and ignorant if you try to claim otherwise. he's not putting in complete performances at the moment, but he'll get there.

Meh... We should have bought a good half then.

Boyd is step up from Kidley. Kidley is great on his day but Boyd is consistantly a better player (after he settles in).:sarcasm:

I appreciate Kurt for what he does for our team but if you are stepping back and looking at what both players have done playing FB over the last couple of years, Darius leaves Kids for dead. He is faster, stronger, is a better link man and most of all knows when to and when not to chime into a backline movement.

I accept that Boyd has been below par for us so far this season but his best games at the back since moving there in '09 are well above anything Gids has ever produced.

You say he is no Kurt Gidley. Thats true and thank f**k for that as we only need one of him in the side.

yeh i second that, we only need 1 gidley. He provides lots of enthusiasm and energy and can fill in admirably anywhere on the field but he is not really a specialist playmaker, more an opportunist that can strike from broken play. Alot of people call him the crab for his cross field running & dummying. However boyd hasnt been playing great as yet so fair point, but i think boyd has more potential.

Boyd has had three tries bombed off his draw and passes in the last two weeks that i can recall.

1. Cut out to Uate vs the Storm where Uate should have burned the touchline but stepped back into slater.

2. Yesterday about 5 mins after Sau's 1st offload for Uates try Boyd gave Sau a great ball that he only needed to catch and pass for Uate to score but Sau ran and fell 20cm short off the line.

3. Drew the centre and got Sau in huge space 30m out who this time caught and passed straight away to Uate instead of running to draw the winger and then passing to Uate.

If we scored those tries people would be saying how Boyd is creating great opportunities for our outside men. Not his fault we are bombing those opportunities hence the work Boyd is doing is forgotten.

exactly, it's not his fault that the good work that he does do gets sullied by our lack of ability to capitalize at the moment. Cuthbertson has similar worries... what's the point in a good offload if we don't know what to do with it?

Oh and considering how Boyd plays 90% of his football 15m in from the left touchline it's interesting to note that he is chiming in a lot on our right fringe. It tells me that what we are screaming for - quality ball to Uate is definitely on the agenda when Boyd is playing either side equally.

Bennett and Boyd have identified Uate needs quality ball guys - Boyd is taking onus on doing this moving from where he has played and made his whole career - the left side of the field and changing his game to be left to right try assister.

I think Boyd has provided some if you rewatch the games carefully and he is improving every week. Uate would have 3 more tries to his name in the last two weeks alone if he and Sau made the correct decisions.

Am confident Darius will have a blinder on Friday night. Plenty of reasons for him too. The Dragons naysayers to start with. We need a cocky Darius. When he has a touch of arrogance in his game he is devastating in attack.
