Breaking: Macquarie Bank wiz to join Eels Board

Ram,
The very people you want to attract have limited time, and there are plenty of other worthy and not-so-worthy causes that are prepared to pay them a sensible amount of compensation for their contributions as a director (not a couple of hundred grand). Were not asking people contribute time to an organisation whose sole focus is helping starving children or similar. The work involved, and the potential liability of directors, has greatly expanded since the days of 'school bags for goal posts'. And if you pay directors a fair sum, they have less reason to feel justified in seeking the excessive consumption of perks to raise their 'real wage'.

Paying the directors a bit more certainly won't solve all our problems, but it will be a step in the right direction.

Quality business and uber successful individuals don't need remunerative compensation to be part of an NRL board. Being part of an NRL team is their perk. Look at the successful ones.

The people that do want or need perks and monetary compensation are the armature and useless ones.

We have been dealing with the later ones for decades, I think it is time we tried something different and got our selves some professionals that have a clue.

I kinda agree - the "really" successful people maybe are so successful that the money would mean little anyway.

But then it comes down to whether you are lucky enough to have people passionate about he club who are successful and willing to give their time/effort.

Comparing to Easts is a bit pointless really - I think they are a special case and they DO happen to have such people as supporters .... put that down to luck/locality/rich snobs from the eastern suburbs/whatever

*edit* ... and probably Nick being head honcho is a massive coupe - he gets his mates involved ... no other club has Nick

Dennis knew the limitations and knew the rules back to front and this was supported by the former leagues club lawyer for many years in Chris Jurd.
As they should being an ex-CEO and club lawyer, would Alan Overton know them?

Are we proportioning all the blame to the Chairman & board were realistically the paid employees (CEO,CFO,Lawyer etc) should be wearing most of it.

I think it should be something like 60:40 with the paid employees taking the 60.

The board should indicate to the CEO that they want to change the term of elections to 3 years, the CEO/Lawyer then draft up the required response to take to the AGM. Before presenting it to the members the board should agree that what is to be presented reflects their intentions. Meeting the regulations should be the domain of the employees.

I agree to an extent Ram. But you just don't jump magically from where we are now to a position in which everyone is falling over themselves to be associated with us. We have to induce people to enter this cluster f**k, not induce them to join a presently well-run machine.

Don't believe for a second that the directors of Easts get no indirect pecuniary benefit from being on the board there with Nick (i.e. appointment to other boards). But remember, we don't have Nick. And for every Easts in the world, there is a well-run sporting club that does pay their directors fairly for their time (and risk).

besides Casper and Jake who on here us trying to discredit Moss????

I just thinking whinging to a hack Journo wasn't the right way to go about things, good to hear he still wants to help the club anyway he can.

Discredit Moss where did I do that?? You must read and talk out of your arse. My point was any director should be elected by the members.

Come on mate, you have been singing the same boring tune for ages. Discrediting Moss might have been a touch harsh but you haven't missed the new board since they got in.

Are you in his faction now mate?

If he's looking to put together a ticket then I'll run with him.

Once elected (which will obviously happen as I'm amazing) I'll make sure the next AGM changes the constitution so that all players contracted to the Club must stop shaving.

Chris Jurd is a long life friend of Dennis.

They were both speaking against the motions.

Jodeci, Chris Jurd was never the Leagues Club lawyer - never. He was a Director of the Leagues Club & Football Club and represented several players over the years at the judiciary.

He represented our players when they went to the judiciary hence he was employed by the club for some years.

Surely it comes down to whether he was on a retainer or not? If he wasn't on a retainer then he just happened to be the bloke we hired when we needed a brief. Like I hire the same plumber (not Sharpie) when I need one...but he's not my employee.

Is he or she related to Plunkett?
