oh no you didn't.

Origin takes the best from NSW, vs the best from QLand. From these players the national team is chosen.

Exiles game takes the best English players, vs the best Aussie/Kiwi stars in the league. From these players the national team is chosen.

See. The same. :D

Well you should know all about how countries with one team can impact a comp. Making your "whole comp to yourself" comment a little foolish. ;-)
So who did Rangi play for?

So where does this leave Gareth Widdop playing fullback? scrumhalf? bench? I wouldn't be surprised (if Steve McNamara was still coach) if most of the team were overseas born who knows by the 2013 you might have guys like the Monaghan bros. If Luke Rooney was tempted to play SL he could make the England squad (English heritage)

1.S Tomkins
2.T Briscoe
3.K Welham
4.J Reed
5.J Charnley
6.G Widdop
7.R Chase/Rob Burrow (have Widdop playing with an experienced half)
8.A Morley
9.J Roby
10.J Graham
11.G Ellis
12.J Wilkin
13.S O'Loughlin

14.A Lynch
15.E Crabtree
16.LMS/Chris Heighington
17.Luke Robinson/Danny Houghton (should be considered)

6. Chase
7. Widdop

Don't need a bench hooker, Roby is perfectly capable of doing it on his own. If so though Robinson.

First of all - most who post here know that I am a big Rangi Chase fan and always have been.

I have met Rangi before and he is top dude and a true maori lol.
I see a number of people bagging him but they need to look at the whole picture.

I/we can debate about this issue and a number of related issues it brings up for quite some time.

As a NZ league league fraternity we need to get away thinking that the NRL and Australia are the be all of Rugby League.
League talent is undeniable and we shouldnt require the Australian Competition and is media/coaching structure to dictate which players are to a certain standard etc.

HE SHOULD BE IN THE KIWI SQUAD THAT WAS NAMED!!!!
He should have been selected over NATHAN FIEN & the golden boy SHAUN JOHNSON.

FIEN is an australian and is over the hill and in crap form

JOHNSON still has to develop as a player first.
He is getting better all the time but not yet an international player.
People can cream themselves all they want . . . when he can show he can tackle and show he can put his body on the line on attack then I would look at him.

I rate what NZRL have been doing of late (in general).
But the powers that be need to be questioned if not BAGGED over this issue.

NZRL release 'fluff' press releases and spend so much time "CONFIRMING or perhaps better term CONVERTING" those AUSSIE players with Kiwi Heritage.
Then patting themselves on the back when peeps like Beale and hoffman put their hand up.

Yet why cant they be in contact with the arguably the BEST players in Superleauge who just happens to be a maori boy from Dannivirke.
A guy who has overcome repeated obstacles over the years to become a top line professional rugby league player.

Why dont they release a statement now.
They should have contact with him . .. just like they are in contact with other fringe kiwis.

Wonder why Junior Kiwis team hasnt been named yet??? Probably have to find replacements for those 'Kiwis' who have been named in the aussie squad.

On Rangi . . .
heaps of people keep on going on - he is a player who couldnt make it in the NRL.

dont get it twisted people . . . sometimes it just the way things work out.

e.g
so leualauai couldnt make it in the NRL . . please he could easily get a starting halfback spot at a number of clubs.

He left St George after it was announced Bennett was going to the Dragons.
He was unsigned at the time and couldnt wait to put his future on hold while waiting to confirm he was part of bennetts plans.

Should he come to the NRL to give it a crack?? Personally I would like to see it.

Why would he like to go back to aussie?? the same country where he gets charged with assault after helping bouncers with a guy who was beating people (inc bouncers) up.

No doubt He had a hard life . .. and is a person with simple values.
England has given him a future he could only dream of . . and ironically he is a very LOYAL dude lol.

haha but on a side note who is manager ffs. Get a new one!!!
Help the brother out with his own media releases/interviews LOL.

whats the difference between the Maori & Wales??

It would only be the same if Wales only picked players who could prove they had Welsh ancestry going back through the generations.

There is clearly a big difference between the two.

What a joke international rugby league eligibility rules are. Gary Schofield is right, this is bullshit

McNamara is trying to make England competitive. He's made it pretty obvious that so long as a player is good enough, qualifies and wants to play for England, he'll pick them. The message to young British players is simple - get better if you want to get in the team.

Personally I think McNamara is laying some great foundations for international league by at least trying to make England competitive in ths short to medium term. Anyone doubting that this is a good idea ought to have a look at some of the garbage served up by Engand/GB in recent years.

This I agree with, some English fans need to get over themselves and see this is the only way they will have any chance of winning any silverware. England just dont have the talent pool at the moment to mix it with the Kiwis and Aussies.

NZ were in a similar situation sometime ago where they had to select Fien and Webb. There was a public outcry, but they started winning games followed by silverware, coincidence? Webb and Fien would never had made the Roos just as Chase wouldn't have made the Kiwis (maybe Kearney had given him the heads up, hence Rangi approaching McNamara?)

Australia had been so dominant, nicking Kiwi and Island players with the dangling of an Origin jerseys, which helped them be so dominant. NZ decided the only way they could compete and have a chance was to play Australia at their own game and nick some of their players. Looks like England have caught on and could be a little more competitive. Good for them and good for Rangi!

Just like some of us Kiwis embraced Fien and Webb, English fans need to do the same for Heighnington & Chase.

I'm lookin forward to hearing what Stevo has to say about the addition of Ran-gee Chase to the England squad. He wasn't happy about Maurie Fa'asavalu's inclusion a couple years back, while Phil Clarke was telling him England had to fight fire with fire lol.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/league/5734737/Rangi-Chase-switch-slammed-by-Schofield

Rugby league legend Garry Schofield has blasted the selection of New Zealander Rangi Chase in England's Four Nations train-on squad - just four months after he played against them.
Chase, who this week won the Super League's Man of Steel award as the competition's best player, played for the Exiles in the international Origin match against England in June in Leeds.
However the former St George Illawarra player has decided to switch his allegiance from New Zealand to England.
''It may be in the rules but, morally, this is bullshit,'' Schofield fumed.
The rules regarding international eligibility in rugby league have for a long time ranged from rubbery to farcical.

If it's ok for Kanagaroos to pick Fijians and Kiwis to pick Australians then why can;t England pick a Kiwi? What's good for the goose and all that. Every sport does it yet we are the only one that whinges about it.

Im fine with Chase playing for England if thats what he wants to play for them.

What I hate and believe is the root of all evil is State of Origin. I hate that this is constantly dangled in front of players for them to play for Australia. And this is where all the trouble starts when special dispensation letter are sent and so forth. If you want to play for Australia and you were born in Auckland but qualify through residency or have an Austrlian parent thats fine. But you should only play for Australia because you want to play for Australia. You shouldn't play for Australia just because you want to play for QLD or NSW. Its not a level playing field for England & NZ because Australia have an advantage whereas England & NZ dont have an origin carrot as such.

Every player to play for Australia is an Australian junior, produced and developed by Australian RL. Poms are just buying ring-ins. That's the difference. If you can' breed them and you can't develop them, just buy them.

Onya Schoey!!! The original bum poker (before Hoppa, done it on Brad Clyde in a test in 92. Read Laurie's book) keeps it real!

well you could argue Chase was poop when he came to England and it is English RL that has developed him into a quality player!
