Brett Stewart found not guilty of sexual assault

Wow a 17 yr old!

This club is a disgrace and should be thrown out of the competition.

Good lad, already setting teh kangaroo court standard I was talking about. I hope one day you get in some kind of trouble and eveyone treats you as a villian, even though you did nothing wrong.

FFS, It is a CLAIM at this stage. It may become a CHARGE, but were you there? NO so don't decide a persons guilt on the f**king media.

Brett Stewart accused of sexual assault

March 7, 2009 - 1:51PM

Manly rugby league champion Brett Stewart has been accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl hours after the club's season launch.
Police say a 24-year-old man has been accused of approaching a girl about 8pm (AEDT) on Friday outside a unit complex on Pittwater Road in North Manly.
The pair spoke for a short time and then entered a stairwell where the girl allegedly was sexually assaulted, police said.
The girl went for help at a nearby unit and police were called.
Officers arrested a man and took him to Dee Why police station where he declined to be interviewed, police said.
He was released without charge, pending further investigations.
The girl went to Royal North Shore Hospital for treatment.
Manly Sea Eagles chief executive Grant Mayer confirmed Stewart had been accused of sexually assaulting a girl.
"The allegation is denied," Mr Mayer said in the statement.
"However, the club acknowledges that the investigation is ongoing and in these circumstances, and on the basis of legal advice which has been received, neither the club nor Brett will be making any further comment pending the conclusion of that investigation."
Mr Mayer declined to comment further when AAP spoke to him.
AAP's attempts to contact Stewart were unsuccessful.
NRL chief executive David Gallop issued a statement on the assault accusation and into a separate alleged incident on Friday afternoon.
Police were called to a licensed premises at Manly where another of the team's players allegedly struck a sponsor at club's season launch.
They say the alleged victim did not make a statement.
Mr Gallop said that the incident had been resolved.
"We still need to wait for the police to establish what has or hasn't happened in relation to the other matter (the alleged sexual assault),'' he said in the statement.
"And we need to respect both the process and the feelings of parties on all sides of the events.
"Having said that, we have worked hard to promote the right messages and having visited every club myself this season there can be no doubt about the fact players should know that they have to accept their responsibilities.''
An NRL spokesman said the organisation had no plans to pull its advertising campaign that showcases Stewart and Melbourne five-eighth Greg Inglis as the faces of rugby league for the 2009 season.

also you dont go to the hospital to be treated if nothing at all happened... it would be obvious to the treating Dr's that she is making it up, if she was making it up i doubt she'd be up for the examination, she'd just do as others do and say i want to forget about it.... this has potential to be real bad for him. I thought he as a real decent bloke and hoepfully for him it all works out, remains to be seen though...

This sounds really bad.

It wasn't your typical he said she said incident in a nightclub. This sounds from MEDIA reports (so take it as you will) pretty bad.

I`d like to remind my fellow forum member that not long ago, a Warriors player called Michael Crockett was just about publicly stoned after a similar allegation against him. The club officially stood by him, but hardly played afterwards and has since been released from the club.

Also, there was another allegation against three Broncos players who had a bit of fun with the wrong kind of female. There was almost a riot, the lynch mob was out in force again, even on this very site.

By the way, in both cases, the charges proved to be unfounded and were dropped.

My question is: When are they gonna prosecute women who make false allegations?

Now I`m not sure the Stewart case is similar, nobody knows. But it`s far from unlikely.

Of course

Most Rugby League sexual assaults are based around too much alcohol and nightclubs. There is an element of doubt already going into the trial. Rape already has a low conviction rate (That is why I get amused by men acting paranoid about rape accusations) and in these cases the chances of getting a guilty verdict get even lower.

This is a whole other scenario.

Sure , but just becuase something happened doesnt make him guilty of anything.

She could have gone to hospital becuase she fell in the stair well trying to get away from him.

Firstly, on the Watmough issue, the article says the matter has been resolved. So my feeling is that it was something that got blown out of proportion. Everyone involved seems happy to move on.

On the Stewart issue, his innocent till proven guilty, that said this does have the potential to be really bad, and if he is charged the club has no choice but to stand him down until it is resolved.

As a Manly Fan and a big fan of the Stewart bros this is very concerning

Mate you have some serious women issues.

You can't prosecute someone just because a person they accused of something was found not guilty. You would have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt they made it up. You are aware of the burden of evidence and how it rests on the prosecution right??

Just because someone is found not guilty does not mean they didn't do it. It just meant there wasn't enough evidence to satisfy the burden of proof. Most of these blokes escape prosecution because it is so hard to establish what happened beyond a reasonable doubt. That is why states like NSW changed consent laws and the like to ensure that drunks cannot consent to sex.
