Brett Stewart found not guilty of sexual assault

Of course

Most Rugby League sexual assaults are based around too much alcohol and nightclubs. There is an element of doubt already going into the trial. Rape already has a low conviction rate (That is why I get amused by men acting paranoid about rape accusations) and in these cases the chances of getting a guilty verdict get even lower.

This is a whole other scenario.

What?!

maybe becuase it can ruin your reputation? not to mention relationships etc?

sorry but thats one of the most stupid things i have read in a while.

Such situations happen so rarely that it is an absurd thing to worry about. I have lived a normal male life and never had anyone accuse me of raping them. I assume you can say the same thing.

Yes, the risk increases for famous people, but then they should take better precautions and take note of who they are f**king.

If you are honestly paranoid about being accused of rape, don't have sex with unknown women. I happen to believe that most people don't just make up rape allegations for a laugh.

No. But if he rings his mate up and says "Mate, we're going to say you did it, are you alright with that?" then somethings not right.

 lets wait and see if he made any calls!

My point was only that some people in here assume GUILT and go on like complete d1ckheads.

I`d like to remind my fellow forum member that not long ago, a Warriors player called Michael Crockett was just about publicly stoned after a similar allegation against him. The club officially stood by him, but hardly played afterwards and has since been released from the club.

Also, there was another allegation against three Broncos players who had a bit of fun with the wrong kind of female. There was almost a riot, the lynch mob was out in force again, even on this very site.

By the way, in both cases, the charges proved to be unfounded and were dropped.

My question is: When are they gonna prosecute women who make false allegations?

Now I`m not sure the Stewart case is similar, nobody knows. But it`s far from unlikely.
You draw a long bow with charges being dropped to being false allegations..

Charges are often dropped because there may not be enough evidence to prosecute...Nothing to do with being false..

If it becomes clear that someone has made false allegations they will be prosecuted or sued at the very least.. This again will be very difficult to prove..

sure , but the question is being paranoid about the accusation becuase it is hard to prove. My point was there's a lot more a stake than being found guilty( although thats the major one)

How's it the opposite? Pray tell Mister Police officer.

How is it the opposite?

quite simply cos he thinks it will fizzle out, and i dont think it will.

Police officer? what are you going on about.

He asked does anyone else have the feeling it will fizzle out? and no i dont !! hence the opposite.

am i right? who knows... no one on here does thats for sure. Wait and see, but based on our poor knowledge (articles only) which is all we have to go on.... you dont get examined in a hospital if your making stuff up and you dont get an avo and interviewed by police until 4 am if u just copped a feel.

either way bad publicity for him, manly and the nrl.

Yeah that is exactly right. It is already against the law to make false allegations. ATG I assume wants some kind of instant thing where the Jury returns a not guilty verdict and the Judge looks straight at the woman and says "NOW YOU GO TO PRISON YOU LYING BITCH FOR 100 YEARS"

Mate you have some serious women issues.

You can't prosecute someone just because a person they accused of something was found not guilty. You would have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt they made it up. You are aware of the burden of evidence and how it rests on the prosecution right??

Just because someone is found not guilty does not mean they didn't do it. It just meant there wasn't enough evidence to satisfy the burden of proof. Most of these blokes escape prosecution because it is so hard to establish what happened beyond a reasonable doubt. That is why states like NSW changed consent laws and the like to ensure that drunks cannot consent to sex.

Well unfortunately the intent to fabricate stories is hard to prove, one can always blame it on bad memory and the effects of the shock. Although in the Crockett case, the accuser and her team were just about laughed out of court, their allegations were so inconsistent. These sorts of allegations against people in the public eye should have a media ban, because they always have a negative effect even if the player is completely innocent.
