sh*t news
Why would he announce it now just out from the finals, this could be late 07 all over again
He got rid of the deadwood and built a strong side but pisses off before the team he built can really excell.
Money sure as hell does talk, ffs Smithy you may have f**ked us royally, all these payers who have found a home here after struggling elsewhere now you leave, it will be near impossible for another coach to get these players performing the roles they do now under their different gameplans.
On the other hand he's done great things for this club in terms of disipline and professionalism, and hopefully the players will continue what he has started he's also signed some real talent who could take this club really far .
But he's pissed off before he could win that premiership that's alluded him and gone somewhere where he definately won't win one.
So you can say he's left the club in a better state then when he started and you'd be right but he may have made tough for us to take it to that next level (unless by some divine miracle Gould or Bennett decide to coach us)
and Karma your sense of self importance never ceases to amaze me, even if you are joking show some respect for the bloke who has made a good quality side from the rubbish that he started with in 07

Mate, I know you hate Smith, therefore you want to have a go at me as a fan of his.

I was not a passionate club supporter of rugby league a few years ago. I like the game, I liked to bet on it, I still do. I told you, I used to take an interest in Parra a bit because I liked seeing Smith get one over his critics. Sure I wanted to see him do well at the Knights. I have another reason to support them now and will continue to do so. I couldn't care less what you think. I don't claim to be a life-long supporter of the Knights. But I am loving following them now and will continue to do so whoever coaches or plays for them. There are plenty of other guys here who have been died-in-the-wool Knights guys all their lives and full credit to them and I don't claim to be one of them. All I do is discuss the footy and try and keep it civil. I have no interest in getting into a personal slanging match with you.

It seems that the Roosters think it's OK (to announce the Smith poaching) because their season is dead and it wont make any difference to them. It also seems that the Roosters - and Smith for that matter - do not give a sh*t about the rest of the Knights season and are happy to disrupt.

The more I think about it...just f*ck off now Smith. Damage is done.

In all fairness to Smith, he hasn't really come out and "announced" anything. However, I do wonder how this story did get leaked in the first place?

Ideally this wouldn't become an issue until the season was dead and buried. But then we'd be frantically looking for an available coach and struggling to get them to the club in time for preseason training. At least now we have a good 3-4 months to search for an ideal fit to the club.

You know Karma, I find your comments on this thread irritating.

I dont know about you mate, but I was there on day one in 2007 when we started preseason.

I have seen what we started with, and what has been done since to get us where we are today.

I didnt agree with everything, but its not my role to question these things.

It was tough work, and nobody wanted that job.

I take great prde in what we have today and more so under the codtions in which we achieved them.

I appreciate you dont like Smith, and have no problem with that.

I looik back on all the effort and how much better we are now and it p*sses me off that you run around on this thread like an immature teenager throwing up ridiculous comments about Hagan and all the rest.

Well you know what old mate, f*ck you. F*ck your comments and you pathetic whinging. If you cant put your hand up and accept Smith has achieved what he was brought here to do.... then you are a f*cking idiot.

Thats all... I am done :)

I put that smiley in so when you get your panties in a bunch I will pretend it was all a joke.

Top post.

Challenged?! Challenged by what?! That the coach you hold so dear is shown to really not give a rats about the Knights?!

I'm not the one who is 'shattered' by his loss. You are though it seems.

You're a grub dude. Seriously. A grub with a personal gripe that goes way beyond this forum.

You're right, the Smith thing might not have been the biggest joke around here - you are.

You can also feel free to PM me anytime TJS instead of airing your dirty laundry issues with me on here and subject everyone else to it.

Grub? We could talk about your past..... but we wont.

A coach abandons his team mid contract.

The announcement comes 2 months out from what is potentially our first semi final series in years.

And somehow this turns into the anti Karmawave show... AGAIN.

I'm a tool for disliking Brian Smith, and commenting on what a joke this whole thing is in the scheme of our 2009 and the timing of his announcement?!

Right.

Appreciate what he has done?! He has finished 15th and 9th, and now the timing of this could ruin our 2009. COULD.

Whatever can take the focus off the real story here, well lets focus on that huh? It's easier directing sh*t against me than actually recognising the real story.

Whatever gets you through the night...

Announcement????? My understanding is that the story was leaked, or announced by the Roosters, who frankly, couldnt care what happens to the Knights, just like we couldnt care what happens to them.

The two main things about Brian Smith are his intensity as a coach, and the fact that it is a guarantee he will leave a Club in a far better position than when he arrived.

There is a shelf life with this level of intensity of coaching (3/4 years), and obviously Newcastle recognise that (where Parra didn't), hence not appearing to be overwhelmed with his departure.

He is a specialist at turning Clubs that are basket cases into professional and well drilled outfits. He certainly ticks a few people off who then up and leave, but they on the most part are the unprofessional and the poorly drilled who have helped create the basket.

He has done an exceptional job at Newcastle and the supporters there owe him a debt of gratitude for his efforts.

Sums up my feelings exactly.

A terrific coach, and in any of my dealings with the man, a terrifec personality. He has left a mark on this club that wont be undone.

Our club is in a stronger position because of Brian and he deserves that acknowledgement.

Just like how the prospective signing of Wayne Bennett by the Roosters was 'leaked' and as such cost the club if the actual signing of Bennett...the club does not seem to be able to keep a secret. There was no chance at all that this was going to remain a secret for the rest of the season...

The thing is, why would we expect anything else from this bloke?!

Smith is a selfish coach, and has been for many years.

This doesn't come as a shock really. He is the games most unpopular coach, and nothing will change just because he is at the Roosters.

In fact, watch some of the current crop ask at the Roosters ask for a release in coming weeks. Willie Mason will be first cab off the rank. I don't imagine Nate Myles and his new contract is real happy either.

Wonder where that leaves Todd Carney's Rooster deal too? ;-)

We can all sit back and watch Smith ruin Mitchell Pearce's career the same way he has many a halfback over the years.

your just a bitter joke, if it wasn't for smith, your club would be royaly f**ked in the ass, his left the club in a better position than we he came to it, in other words he done his job, thats what use signed him for, to rebuild.

What the f**k is going on?

Wow...amazing...gutted...surprised...and just plain amazed at the moment. We have been going so well, and then this happens. I can understand Smithys motivations but still...so shattered. The coaching stocks going around the moment aren't that great, so that is why I am unhappy as well :(

And as for Karma, after his performance in here tonight I think it is time for him to leave and find another forum. (was considering starting a poll on it but I don't think the mods will approve of something like that lol) Perhaps find another team to support while you're at it too...I hear the Roosters could do with some deathriding...you should definitely have no problems finding things to pick on now your favourite coach is going there too!

And finally, in answer to your question - yes I'll put my hand up as a Smithy fan. I was a little unsure in 06 when I heard we signed him, but he has steadily swung my opinion right from Round 1 2007, yes even when we were going like busteds. Regardless of whether I am unhappy at the poor timing of this (which has been well covered by others - i am pretty pissed off too), I am very thankful for what he's done with our club and am pretty happy with where we are placed for the future.

So I guess my post ends with a thanks Smithy :)

My concern with this is the effect on the rest of the season.
It can either be:
"panic, panic, what will we do now. The team will fall apart! Smith sucks!"
or
an attitude of doing the best by getting as high in the finals as possible and giving Smith a good sendoff.

If a lot of posts here are any suggestion then we might as well throw in the towel now.
Back the team to do the best they can and back Smith to do the best he can. We could barely walk when he came along and now we can run.

How would supporters feel if this went down the same path as Bennett with the Roosters, and Smith backed out of the deal because the story was leaked in the media?

Would supporters be happy to have him stay out his contract until the end of 2010, or has there already been too much damage done?

Kind of a different situation - Smith's been here for 3 years. Bennett was with Brisbane for close to 20 years? I do think that if it was leaked before Smith signed that he wouldn't have been with us in 2010 whether he signed with the Roosters or not. His disloyalty wouldn't have been appreciated.

I'm fascinated by how Karma manages to masturbate so vigorlously over his photographs of Michael Hagan while still typing with minimal typos, myself.

Shocked and a bit devastated at first.. But upon reflection and reading some of the posts in here, Smith has really done his job, what he usually does, and a very good one at that. Our team has transformed into something all of us can be very proud of over the last few years- a team that plays as a team. Sure it's sh*t timing but lets all be honest- you have to look out for yourself and family first so if the knights didn't get in first you can't blame him really.

Karma- mate what's missing in your life so badly that makes you spend so much time coming on here defending your agenda, bagging out smith and generally being negative about most things the knights do. I sincerely feel sorry for you mate.. Consider spending some of your energy on thinking about why you feel the need to always play devil's advocate and be a sh#t stirrer in here. Yeah you'll come back and say 'at least I get a reaction' or 'other people are on here more', but the difference is that they are generally trying to be positive and make suggestions for improvements in order to generate conversation rather than always bitch about the situation. Think about it mate, I'm sure you'll come up with a wonderfully intelligent response using multiple examples from other poster's in recent months.

Has learnt coaching under Craig Bellamy and Wayne Bennett, ( who Bellamy himself learnt off ), has a good rapport with the kiwi / polynesian players - who lets face it, we have in abundance - and is widely regarded as the best up and coming coach not to be currently coaching first grade.

he hasnt learnt anything. Follows Bellamy's lead at Storm and with the team they have had in recent years its not hard to win games... and when coaching NZ he had Bennet pulling the strings and he getting the spoils!! Motivation is his strength but game plans are not....

Best up and coming coach is Shane Flanagan by far!!!!! Assistant coach to Cronulla, NSW and Australia!!!!!!

Karma - your comedy routine tonight has bordered on embarrassing. Just about everyone here can appreciate the job that Smith has done here and - .

Agreed. respect for Knights fans for taking it on the chin with Smith but that Karma guy is a f*cking moron!!

Either support the team or dont!! You should be supporting them with a passion all the time... not just now Smith has left....

In true Brian Smith style, the players were in shock last night, but he ' TEXTED ' them all to say that he'd speak with them all sometime Sunday.

Good stuff Brian.

Look guys, no one can take away the good stuff Smith has done for our club. But at the same time, while ever he still does the things that made him the most unpopular coach in the game ( like the way he has handled this latest situation with his players by text and in secret ), it's incredibly hard to like the bloke at all. Say what you want about me, but stand back and take a look at the same time about how Brian Smith handled this latest situation for our club and its potential impact on both our short AND long term futures.

What would you have expected him to do when a story is leaked on a Saturday evening?
