Brian Smith -> Roosters?

Not surprised at Smiths departure. Piece in todays Herald says the Knights gave him a three week window to explore other options. Obviously he's done that. That indicates to me that the club has a back up plan for his departure, however I doubt they thought it would be announced now. Smith has done his job here and it's a good job (I doubted him but was wrong) I'm disapointed that it's been announced now though, I think really he should go now and we get a stand-in for the rest of the year. I can't see the boys performing for him as a team to be honest. If he stays on then I don't see us making the semis (hope I'm wrong) Again though he turned the mess Hagan left around in quick time, did the tough things that were needed, shame he wont be here to reep the rewards.

What would you have expected him to do when a story is leaked on a Saturday evening?

I'd expect that after being in the game so long, what else should he expect if he has been running around negotiating with another team THAN IT TO LEAK ON A SATURDAY EVENING.

Anyone would think he was a rookie and didn't know how the media works...

He could have been more upfront about it - at least to his players and staff of all people. He owes us fans nothing, but you'd think he'd respect his own players a bit more.

It must have been wonderful for Kurt et al to hear it from a journalist first.

Dam, I go for a nap and the sh*t hit's the fan. Brian was a top student of mine, spreading hate and fear like no other. I imagine alot of the players are going to feel relieved that he is spreading his brand of evil elsewhere, and I won't be suprised if they actually play even better and more natural footy and finish quite strongly for the rest of the year purely from that horrible joy they are feeling. I don't think Newcastle will lose to many players because alot of them are attached to that craphole city newcastle for it's dispicable prettiness, and it's vulgar family freindly environment and beatiful beaches, and the support the team gets from the city. It all makes me sick just thinking of it.

It truly baffles me how Brian Smith gets a free pass from some of the Knights fans..

But yet, I'm the biggest jerk in the world for calling Smith out for it!?

It sure doesn't surprise.

No one can begrudge a bloke from taking $2.4M and bettering his career and lifestyle. NO ONE. Good luck to him for that. Seriously.

But the way it was handled was in the style one has come to expect from Brian Smith, with little regard seemingly shown for his staff, Knights players, and the potential impact the timing of all this has for the rest of 2009.

That's the best attitude to have Pika.

I hope every single Knights player and staff to a man feels the same way.

I also hope that Brian Smith hasn't ' lost ' some of them by the way this was handled - if you know what I mean.

There is every chance he has, regardless of how he handled it.

Its not hard to feel somewhat betrayed.

The players are tight knit though, they have to be with a coach who is a disciplinarian who is pretty aloof.

I think this will keep them solid for the remainder of the season.

There is quite a lot of disappointment being shown here at Brian Smith and how it has all gone down Karma. Hardly a free pass.

If you are looking at changing jobs in the work force, you don't go around and start telling all of your staff that you are looking around. This is no different to Smithy's situation.

I believe that Smithy had no intention to discuss his intentions with the players until after they have completed their 09 commitments but the Roosters who have no issue in trying to destablise other clubs as usual leaked the information to their players.

It is unfortunate that it has happened before the season is over and I don't blame Smithy at all for this. But it is better to have happened now so the players can get use to it and not during the semi's.

The team I believe under Smithy is punching above their weight and it will be crucial to have the next coach able to have the players perform the same. Maybe the best option would be Rick Stone

Yes, some of my comments were ridiculous, and way over the top. I was wrong to go over the top like that, and I apologise. I let my emotions get the better of me, but Smith has always angered me in the way he handles his players, and his lack of ' people skills '.

As a tactician, Brian Smith is a brilliant coach. I've only ever been critical of the way he seems to handle the way he communicates with his players with people management skills. If we could somehow merge Brian Smith's tactical genius, with Phil Gould's player management skills, we'd have the perfect coach.

As for my dumb comments, they've been said now, but I have to admit I was pretty fired up when I learnt about all of this and found out that it was dropped like a bombshell on most of the players and staff.

Personally , did it come as a surprise to you Pika?! The staff meeting last night you had, was that hastily thrown together?!


Anyway, I apologise for the over the top stuff, but I maintain the rage that the Roosters found out first - a day before Knights players ( who then received a TEXT off Smith )
