Brian Smith -> Roosters?

Well, I like to think that the Knights have a plan....that they have let Smith out his contract because they have worked out an alternate plan....Smith is fast becoming notorious as being a mercenary coach... he has no loyalty to anyone other then himself, I am not sure if he can be criticised for that because the world we live in creates that situation..

I am not sure where I sit with this at this stage, but I must admit perhaps it is time for Smith to go and perhaps he knows it too... most of the players that Smith brought to the club have be resigned so there are not too many he can take with him at this stage....anyway history will judge Smith....

Smithy has done a remarkable job at the knights.

Hagan had left the knights as a basket case and Smithy has turned the whole joint around.

I am sure that the matter has been around for a few weeks and the issue discussed with Burro who granted the release. Timing is never good in these situations as all coaching jobs for the next year are known before the end of the current year. As such, if a release was granted it is better done now than closer to the semi's.

The way Smithy operates, I am sure he will give the knights his first priority this year.

Once again, I totally agree.

A coach abandons his team mid contract.

The announcement comes 2 months out from what is potentially our first semi final series in years.

No, I agree, it's pretty sh*tty how this is coming to light right now..

And somehow this turns into the anti Karmawave show... AGAIN.

lol

I'm a tool for disliking Brian Smith, and commenting on what a joke this whole thing is in the scheme of our 2009 and the timing of his announcement?!

Right.

lol, you've acted like a complete and utter twit in this thread, and then you attempted to back-pedal by saying you were joking because you copped some flack. You'd think someone in your position would be able to handle it.

Appreciate what he has done?! He has finished 15th and 9th, and now the timing of this could ruin our 2009. COULD.

no, I agree with you here. His timing is pathetic.

my post was directed at your ramblings about him as person and you being happy that he is going (in more than just this thread..) rather than his timing. I agree with you there.

Andy Raymond has thrown up Peter Sharp as a "smokie". No thanks.

Personally, I would be happy for Stephen Kearney to be appointed head coach in 2010. Michael McGuire wouldnt be too bad either..

Believe me, as a Parra fan, Brian Smith is a bloke you don't want overstaying his welcome.

Not great timing but you won't get the situation we went through.

I hope he leaves now, so the Knights remainder of the season doesn't become the circus the Eels became when he announced he was leaving them.
i think the circus hit full swing once it became clear where hagan and smith were going (i got well and truly sick of the phrase 'bizarre coaching swap') i was as dumbfounded by the news as im sure you all are i can't believe the knights would let smithy go without a replacement waiting in the wings

Interesting. Maybe Burro likes what he has got at the Knights at the moment? Stone or Robinson perhaps?

Understatement of the year.

There are literally Roosters players on the phone to their managers right now.

How easy will it be to hate the Roosters now?!

Better still, how much better will it be to LOVE THE KNIGHTS WITH MORE PASSION ONCE AGAIN.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
You are a f**king idiot.
What sort of supporter are you.
Why do you post in the knights forum at all

Cheers

Very sad news. I've long been a fan of Smith's and considering that the majority of the league world expected the Knights to be in for an era of cellar-dwelling post Joey and Bedsy, I think he has done wonders. Even my fiancee who is the most passionate Knights supporter you could ever hope to meet, and was very sceptical about Smith until about mid-way through last year, reckons I was right about him. And she doesn't concede too often! I just hope that Smith can give his all to the club for the rest of the year. He definitely lost interest in the Eels in 2006, and while he did the right thing by resigning, he should have walked much earlier. I hope he learned from that. While he is renowned for his professionalism, everyone has their weaknesses and as a "big picture" kind of guy his focus might begin to stray towards planning for the Roosters. If that happens I hope he is self-aware enough to step down immediately. I think we're too inexperienced to win the comp this year, but it's a funny kind of season with not that much between the top 8 or 9 teams and we could possibly make a bit of noise in the finals. As for the future, I just hope we get someone who is on top of the enormous leap the leading clubs have made in technical and professional aspects over recent years. Smith will leave a legacy of a good structure and a well-drilled side, but the game is a constant changing beasty, and we need someone who knows how to adapt, or we will have some residual success for a short period and then go backwards very quickly.

Karma - your comedy routine tonight has bordered on embarrassing. Just about everyone here can appreciate the job that Smith has done here and - while it is shi**y what he has done to us - hopefully he'll put his full efforts in to the rest of the year for us and we are still a shot of doing well in the finals.

But it is shi**y...

The two main things about Brian Smith are his intensity as a coach, and the fact that it is a guarantee he will leave a Club in a far better position than when he arrived.

There is a shelf life with this level of intensity of coaching (3/4 years), and obviously Newcastle recognise that (where Parra didn't), hence not appearing to be overwhelmed with his departure.

He is a specialist at turning Clubs that are basket cases into professional and well drilled outfits. He certainly ticks a few people off who then up and leave, but they on the most part are the unprofessional and the poorly drilled who have helped create the basket.

He has done an exceptional job at Newcastle and the supporters there owe him a debt of gratitude for his efforts.

you follow Smith, not teams

you ditched Parra and started following Newcastle because of him. you even said so in the Parra forum

Never truly followed the Eels mate. Did like to see them succeed because I used to follow league mainly as a punter, and always thought a lot of Smith as a coach.

But that was before I got engaged to a red and blue-eyed ex-Novocastrian. It's all about the Knights now.

Smith has put together a team here that suits his style of coaching. But what happens if we sign a new coach who comes along and decides he doesn't rate half our squad and wants them to play a different style of football, so then we have another player clean out. Wouldn't that just undo all of Smiths work here?
