a saints fan saying the sharks should die, surprise surprise...and although i disagree with Frailty's idea, i'm quite happy with the number of Sydney clubs, he is one of the very few willing to offer up their own club when suggesting lowering the number of Sydney teams. Everyone else is too quick to say "we need 2 less teams, f**k off roosters/sharks/souths/penrith".

imo the blame for our inability to expand while maintaining stability lies solely with administritive incompetence by both clubs and NRL. People love RL, spend a lot of money on it, its arguably the biggest football code in the country, yet it is not profitable? Pure incompetence.

I completely agree. To be honest, I would love to keep all the Sydney clubs, but I think in the current climate with the people running the clubs and competition, the amount of sydney sides can not be sustained.

The question we need to consider is have we left it too late to create an environment where we can keep the current clubs alive and expand the game? I think we have. But it is a question that is easily debated.

There is a lot to debate here, which is good.

But the suggestion that Manly were white knights hey and "saved" Rugby League is probably one of the most preposterious things Ive ever read.

Probably the one club most responsible for the other clubs disenfranchement with the NSWRL, no re-writing history as its saviour.

Actually Cronulla are fairly stable thanks to the strength of the clubs assets.

But what really is your point, because your club didn't go to super league? There were plenty of other clubs that went too, but because a person who happens to support a team who went to super league comes up with an idea to help the league it must be disregarded.

I am getting really frustrated with this constant bickering between people and forumers about the ARL-SL war. Both sides had good ideas, both sides screwed up to. Now let's let that go and look to move the game forward. This sense of elitism of boths sides is why the game will not go forward.

pretty much.

any time a fan of an ex SL club comes up with an idea to improve the game it always involves less sydney clubs.

i didnt say they were the only club.

the roosters, parra and saints all received offers to save themselves and go to SL.

they all said no.

You need to read up on the whole SL-ARL thing a bit more. This plan for 'less sydney clubs' was actually started by you good mate arko, and had been only issued one year licences. And to be honest, back then it wasn't the best move...

I believe now it is...

for the good of RL eh?

shame cronulla didnt think of that when they went to SL.

the best thing would be for saints to have their own team and illawarra to have their own team

Every one of your posts should have the word IRRELEVANT in big black writing on the top. I'm struggling to think how someone could be more out of touch than you are.

North
Manly/North Sydney

South
St George/Cronulla-Sutherland

West
Wests/Penrith/Parramatta

City
Sydney/Souths

Inner West
Balmain/Bulldogs

So ultimately the competition would be:

Western Sydney
Inner Suburbs
City
Southern Sydney
Northern Sydney
Brisbane
Gold Coast
Melbourne
New Zeland Warriors
Nth Queensland Cowboys
Newcastle Knights
Canberra Raiders

And this will have what effect on RL in Sydney?

Tell me what sport is followed in the North Sydney district now the Bears are gone? Remember Bears averaged 15,000 in 1994. Saints, illawarra, wests, balmain have lost half their support? Do the research on their crowd figures. Weren't Saints/Illawarra crying poor earlier this year as were Wests Tigers?

This ridiculous belief that putting two clubs together to make a super club is an absolute myth. IT DOESN'T WORK.

By merging these teams you are only destroying the strength of league in Sydney. We damaged the fabric of the game during the SL war, do we really want to do it again?

I can also guarantee you if you weaken Sydney you can kiss big money contracts goodbye. We will become some souless pay TV filler. Is this what you want?

theres a book about SL, read it.

it will remind you all the terrible things clubs like yours did.

or a chapter in george piggins book on super league.

its all in the past now. what happened, happened
stop fighting eachother, if we used all this energy to fight AFL and union, like we should be doing, we'll get somewhere

the damage is still in the present.

there is a cancer which controls the game and isnt leaving any time soon.

poor TV deals, players leaving the sport, a bad media all to do with SL.

the clubs that brought that cancer into the game should be forever sorry.

if RL werent such a good game, theyd have killed it.

forget about union, its almost dead here.

all we need is a boss who actually can point out the many areas where AFL gets slammed by RL.
fair call
the afl is making itself out to be untouchable n we keep making ourselves look like idiots. we need someone who is gonna stand up for our game and put AFL in its place...and by that i dont mean melbourne
the last i heard of gallop leaving was when soccer wanted him as ceo. is there even any talk of him leaving, or is there anyone who is trying to oust him?

One word that should never be used in any discussion relating to the Super League War ----- Loyalty
One word that should always be used in relation to discussing Super League issues ----- Money

There was no loyalty for the ARL. They were motivated by money. Don't ever believe differently.

Also the game was in a sh*t position before the Super League War. The Sydney clubs then were in a sh*t position hence they were introducing the criteria for admission. Were average crowds any better? I doubt it. Ratings are better now. I know last year and the year before things were better than before the Super League War. People seem to talk about it like it was some golden time back then though. It was no better than now though.

I thought the game was doing well before super league with the tina turner adverts and the pokie's bringing money.

The war is over and has been for ten years. Get over it FFS

Also how is it that in your opinion one side (the ARL) did no wrong whilst the other side (superleague) were the devil incarnate ? Do you realise how childish that is ?

one side looked after the game of RL for nearly a century. their goal was to grow the game and they were very succesful at it.

the other sides goal was to maximise shareholders return. they do that by raping RL.

see how childish it is not to admit your side was wrong.

the war might be over, but we have to live with the peace settlement every day

Expansion also suffered as a result of Super League.......people think that it was good for the game, well, think again.......
