Brisbane Tigers make their bid to be 18th team

I cannot argue with anything in the article.

Brisbane Tigers are the best qualified bid proposing to enter the NRL. They're willing to claim the 18th licence now, or, wait until the 19th or 20th licences become available.

Waiting another 10 years won't hurt the club.
Best qualified except for the fact that the NRL doesn't need another club in Brisbane anytime soon. If anything putting another team in Brisbane anytime in the foreseeable future would be a really stupid idea.
It's highly debatable as to whether they have the 'best bid' at all, but there's no point even trying to broach that subject with the dumbarses in this sport that seem to think that the NRL clubs should exist solely to justify the gaming industry and leagues clubs, and to prop up the broadcast business, and not as successful entertainment businesses in their own right.

But f**k it, I guess the sport may as well disappear up it's own arsehole in a circle jerk of old boys networks and steadfast adherence to tradition in a rapidly changing world, especially if it's stupid enough to get involved with ideas like a government funded club in PNG.

Easts can merge with North Sydney lol. Play half their games out of Langlands Park and the other half at NSO. Call the team the Bearcats, that aught to excite all the out of touch geriatrics on both sides of the boarder lol.

They should be team 20 and nz2 team 19

that would give the dolphins almost ten years of clear air

its one of lifes ironies. The bid with the most money is the least needed or wanted because of its location. No wonder they wanted to go to PNG.

We don't know if they have the most money, it's just assumed that they do because of their leagues club and because most of the other bids financials aren't as accessible to the public.

We don't even really know how much money East's Leagues club would be willing to invest on an ongoing basis, and it wouldn't be the first time that a leagues club has been tight and got jack of underwriting a failing football club.

NZ2 as the 19th team would be great for the game.

The Brisbane Tigers are predicted to become one of the top five richest clubs in the NRL. The amount they will command from sponsorship and corporate hospitality will dwarf anything Perth can offer.

In what universe is it the "least wanted"?

You know about Ch9's desire to have another team in Brisbane.

I'm yet to see anyone from Ch9 say they want clubs from Adelaide and Perth.

If PNG want to be a stand alone team playing all but maybe magic round at home … then this will be what they go with…

If that doesn’t work after the money runs out then onto Plan B…

Joining with Brisbane Tigers all but assures it won’t work… which seems a complete waste of time and money ..

Why would the NRL risk needing a plan B when there are other options that won't need a plan B?

Hell I'd even back Perth in 10 years to have a decent pathway.

Say they go with PNG, and the PM is turfed and the funding not renewed. Then you have wasted 10 years that could of developed systems elsewhere

What options are they ?

partner with the Brisbane Tigers, be based in Brisbane and play half their games in Brisbane …?

Good luck with that being the model they go with…particularly when Andrew Hill has ruled it out when asked last week

It'll be interesting to see the crowds for Dolphins against the sydney teams at Suncorp in less favorable slots this season. That'll start to give us a sense now the hype has died down of their actual fanbase.

They've got
Tigers on a Saturday
Knights on a Sunday
Manly on a Thursday

as lessor attractive games

Doesn't matter. TV & streaming numbers more important
