Broncos chances in 2016

Injuries are the biggest factor, but those are something you can't predict so it's not something you can really take into consideration unless you're looking at individual players with dodgy injury history

I think the Broncos will go close to the minor premiership. Bennett sides always like to start fast, especially the Broncos who know they'll have a testing time around Origin. However, even that issue has been improved for them slightly since Bennett was last with the club.

Whether fans/those in charge admit it or not, the almost Friday fixed schedule helps, especially early in the season when it's more consistent.

It's for these reasons along with their very good side that I think they'll go close to the minor premiership.

However, I have the Roosters as my favourites all things being equal. Despite the loss of Maloney/RTS I think their forward pack is about to go a further level up. Last year they had guys at their peak (JWH, Friend, Moa, Cordner etc) along with guys who were making an impact but still a little raw in some ways (Taukeiaho, Evans, Nappa etc). I think this year they've got those core players still at their peak, but they also have those younger guys ready to move up to the next level. If they stay fit and focused I can't see too many packs sticking with them for 80 minutes.

The Cowboys I had a feeling around round's 7-8 that they were just destined to win the premiership this year. That just doesn't happen two years in a row and as a result I never tip the reigning champion.

So I really don't think theres much wrong with so many tipping Brisbane, but injuries can change everything in the space of a round or two.

Op has a good point. Teams go up a gear against last season's grand finalists and this season opposition won't underestimate the Broncos this time round.

Every season that passes for the most privileged club in the comp is a failure. There's that pressure too

Yet the last time a team went back to back in the NRL, Wayne Bennett was the coach of the Broncos. Please tell me you aren't underselling him again. In 2015 he had something to prove after his failed tenure at Newcastle. He got within 5 seconds of proving it and failed.

A motivated Bennett is a dangerous force on its own. Now give him that squad. Milford and Hunt in the halves, Roberts and Boyd roving around the back, led by a underrated pack.

How can you win the war when you admitted you failed?

All of the pressure sits squarely on the Bronco's Shoulders to go 1 better but I think it'll be a team like Sharks, Storm or Warriors in 2016. the only thing the Bronco's gained from 2015 was an ageing roster and a centre that wouldn't tie Hodges boot laces..

Well, that was a long round-a-bout way to suggest that success cannot be guaranteed in the NRL.

No kidding.

It may take longer for the Broncos to avenge 2015, but there's plenty to like about their squad and they have as good a chance as any. At this time of the year, it's all you want as a fan.

The good news for the Broncos is that 2017 and 2018 will be just as likely? Would only lose Parker and possibly Thaiday during that time and have Oates and Arrow coming through. A real premiership window for the Broncos. 2015 was just a lucky one for us, many predicted that we wouldn't even make the 8.

Meh. No-one ever really remembers the runner-up.

In saying that though, most teams like to step it up against the Broncos, just cos... We are used to that by now!

Not last season they didn't, (or any seasons under griffin/henjak) the broncos turned up every week to just grind out results, opposition will be more ready for that this season

It's just a shame that with the return of Master Wayne that all of a sudden there are a few more presents under the Brisbane Christmas Tree.

Last year was Milford, Boyd and Blair.

This year is James Roberts.

I was really enjoying them struggle tbh.

Hodges might have provided some leadership but on the field he was close to a liability towards the end of the season... I've always defended him as one of the best centres going round but after his injuries mid year his creativity just couldn't make up for his lack of speed. Roberts will create opportunities and his support play will add an extra dimensionan which is invaluable when you have the likes of Milford and Nikorima in the team, as well as Parker and Blair with their offloads.

I think giving Hodges the captaincy was as much for team balance of anything, Hodges has always been an immature player and giving him the reigns would have partially been to get the best out of him. There are enough old heads at the club (Parker, Blair, Thaiday) to keep the ship steady even if we go for a young captain.

Also, OP mentions that our forward pack was one of the team's strengths, well they should be better next year with our most consistent metre eater in McGuire back. Ofahenguae and Wallace should continue their improvement as well.

Injuries will play a key role of course, but I can certainly see why the Broncos are favoured like they are.

We are a chance, but so is every team in the top 4. Get to the top 4 and you never know. Have the Cowboys, Roosters, Brisbane in the top 4, with a number of teams fighting for the 4th. Honestly who knows, an injury here and there and it all changes.
